Anyone know what this is all about? Just Bali or the whole country? Is it legal?

It is not new, and is naitonwide. You must own 1.25 billion Rupiah in shares of at PT PMA in which you are not a Director, or 1.00 billion Rupiah shares of a PT PMA in which you are a Director. This entitles you to a 1 or 2 year KITAS, extendable, and after 3(?) years can be changed to KITAP.

Thanks for your post, appreciated.

Does an Investor KITAS Allow You to Work in Indonesia?
According to the BKPM of Indonesia, a director of a company on an investor KITAS can work as long as the following criteria are satisfied:

  • All tasks handled by the director shall fulfill the scope of the company’s business activities
  • The company provides equal opportunities to all Indonesian to make a living.
However, a different condition applies to a commissioner of a company. According to our inquiry to the Ministry of Manpower, a commissioner can work with Investor KITAS. However, if you as investor expect to take a very active role in your company business, we highly recommend you to position yourself as the main director or the second director. In general, a commissioner is expected to have a less active role and involvement in the daily operations of the company.[/quote]

So does not sound suitable for English teachers or digital nomads.

I guess it could re teachers- if the director/owner/investor of a school was covering classes for sick employees or something.
If they had a regular teaching schedule that might be much more dodgy ground.
DN - I think harder to fit criteria
