Hi, newbie here, felt I should share my experience because maybe it will clarify for somebody else.
I am in Bali, on a B211A visit visa that expired in May. I am a citizen of the USA and there are flights available. I was previously told (in a DM exchange on Instagram with Direktorat Jendral Imgrasi a few weeks ago) that I should leave Indonesia by August 11. Of course, rumors are flying, and something about the revised letter from July 22 made me feel reassured. I went to Kantor Imigrasi Denpasar yesterday with my sponsor, to confirm my options.
The official at Denpasar Immigration told us that I could choose EITHER to take an available flight home and leave Indonesia by August 11, OR I could get 30-day visa extensions until the pandemic is over. Basically, it was "you can leave if you want, but we will give you 30-day extensions until the pandemic is over."
This is a... generous interpretation of the official statements, so it seems to me that Denpasar is kind of setting its own rule on this issue.
To clarify, the 30-day extensions will expire 30 days from application date. So yes, every 30 days it seems there will be a rush at immigration, unless people intentionally stagger their applications. (This is a sensible reason to apply earlier than the August 11 deadline--to get on a different schedule than other applicants and avoid the crowds.)
We also asked about the possibility of the telex visa, the ability to apply online for a new B211A without leaving Indonesia. The official said yes, this will become possible. He estimated that the online portal will become active sometime around early August. I do not know if this is a pandemic thing, or a forever thing, but if it's the latter, it will change the long-term visitor situation dramatically (no more visa runs to Singapore?).
We picked up the forms to fill out at home. I guess I will do 30-day extensions for a few months, until the online visa portal opens and stabilizes (after all the visa-free people apply for visit visas?). Then, assuming it still seems like the right move, we will apply for a new Visit Visa to get 6 months of relative certainty.
