Mobil Rakyat...new cars

Indeed, Zion and Bryce are very nice, but Zion (particularly the angel landing) was very crowded. We started early morning 6:00 am and had to share the narrow, steep and strenuous trail to angel landing with other hundreds people.
The others national and state parks are also very impressive. Difficult to say which are better.
11 days is far from enough, we have to skip the Grand Canyon and Yosemite half dome for next year.

How lucky we are, we got free upgrade to the Grand Cherokee, 4x4. 5.7 liter V8.

Wow you were lucky. Also great to cruise on-road.

The Grand Cherokee is nine years old by now and it’s time for a fifth generation.

They expect it will share its platform with Alfa Romeo’s larger SUV and there will be a plug-in version.

Some news from Toyota; the rather futuristic C-HR and the popular sedan Camry get some minor updates.

The good thing is that Toyota is (finally) equipping its cars with Apple CarPlay and Google Auto.

So that means the GPS of your smartphone can be used on (the screen of) the car.

The Suzuki Jimny is a bit the victim of its own success. Everywhere there are long queues and the quota per country are limited. In the U.K. for instance, 4,500 people want one while they only get 2,000 per year. In Belgium its status is sold out without any indication of order period.

The prices are also rather steep, in most European countries it costs €30K. Then a price of 350 Juta rupiah over here, is not even that bad.

In India, Suzuki has introduced another mini jeep. It is called the S-Presso.

Now don't think this is some kind of off-roader as the Jimny is. In fact it is a very cheap car (<100 Juta) more comparable to the Renault Kwid (which is based on the Datsun Go). No 4wheel drive or anything like that.

We'll see if it shows up in Indonesia.

From the front it suggests an alligator with bad teeth -- to me, anyway.

Looks a bit like it and they both use the same platform (as the Swift) but the Ignis is somewhat bigger (3,7 m) and has a larger engine. It is obviously heavier and is less spartan, it has many more options.

The Isuzu D-Max (pickup truck) will be renewed soon. Since there was a facelift in 2017, this should be a new model. In RI the car is sold via the Astra network.

Isuzu has released a teaser.

Angkot drivers all over the country: Rejoice!

There is a renewal of the Mitsubishi L300 / Delica gamut.

Now it was about time, since the current generation originated in 1979.

Of course the question is whether they will be replaced or not.

The pickup will also be changed so the delivery and transportation guys will be happy too.

The LCEV program, as confirmed by the Minister of Industry, will 'soon' regulate the stimulation of environmental friendly cars, including tax incentives. Thanks to the program, these cars should be(come) cheaper.
The reason the Ministry of Industry is not using the words Eletric Vehicle in LCEV, is that they would also include other technologies, such as (Plug-in) Hybrid. They expect the framework and incentive program to be operational this year.

No news on the program, but according to DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan "Electric-based vehicles for both cars and motorbikes will not fall under the even & odd systems,". According to Anies, electric vehicles, both motorcycles and cars, do not contribute to air quality pollution.

DFSK Glory 580. A car from a Chinese brand that has a presence in Indonesia already since 2015. Last year they introduced this larger SUV.

Several electric vehicles were on display at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show or GIIAS 2019 at ICE, BSD City, in Tangerang.

Among them were the DFSK Glory E3, Renault Twizy, Mercedes-Benz EQ Boost, Toyota CH-R Hybrid, and the Ecgo Bike electric bicycle.

Managing Director of PT Sokonindo Automobile Franz Wang said that the DFSK Glory E3 will soon be marketed in Indonesia in the fourth quarter of this year.

Then car plates for electric vehicles should have no numbers at all, otherwise, too troublesome to be intercepted by the police and explaining that your vehicle is exempted from the even & odd system.

They can always assign a different license plate color for electric vehicles, like blue for example.

Or a special letter combination (like government RFS/RFP/RFx plates, or simply start the 3/4000 series only for hybrid/electric cars etc, so many options.

But while I’m typing this I remember there is actually a system to the numbers/letters, telling you from which province and which city/kabupaten the plate number is, so probably a new plate color as previously suggested is a better option, like green of nature or blue for the blue skies the car helps get ;)

The obvious color would be green. (If a different color of plate to differentiate becomes the SOP, then the cost of spray cans of the chosen tint, no doubt, would be forced up by a surge in demand.)

Green is taken, by the Army.

Regardless of the color, making a fake plate is cheap in Jakarta. I think there are roadside stalls in certain areas openly selling license plate “modifications”.

This even-odd scheme itself can easily be thwarted by people having a second set of plates. If your real plate is even numbered, you can buy / make another set with an odd number. How would cops know the plate is fake just by looking at it?

they can use some Kalimantan black magic

They can't of course. But there's is a system called E-TLE, it is using cameras installed on fixed locations to record licence plates and the car model, checking against a database. Then it signals the police present, which ones are fake.

The next step would be to buy real license plate numbers from cops. Let’s say you have a silver Avanza with an odd number, you’ll buy information about an even number for the same car model, then you make the plate. I wouldn’t be surprised if you can actually get a real plate for a couple of million rupiahs.

As far as the database is concerned that number is valid, it’s even assigned to the right type of car. You can only spot the sleuth by comparing the plate to the STNK (registration paperwork).

This is a country that invented the term ‘aspal’ (asli tapi palsu, genuine but fake). Some people even has genuine land titles containing falsified information. Paying somebody to press a duplicate license plate is possible.

The richest folks would simply keep two cars, one with an even number and the other odd.

The electronics the Jakarta cops have usually malfunction in short order, rarely get properly repaired, and almost never quickly.
