Mixed marriage/relationships- aka Oh those idiosyncrasies

Where do I start ?? So many but my absolute pet hate is both my wife and kids never close doors when the AC is on and never turn out lights. My wife says she will have Shut the door and turn the lights out carved on my grave stone.

Ohh you just reminded me - the fridge... not just Indonesia hubby though... our nephews & inlaws do it to.
They come & open the fridge looking for goodies, and stand there looking & looking , & looking... door wide open- fridge beeping away in terror that it might get too warm... what's that all about?

... ignoring one of my house rules, they invariably open it during power outages.

My wife barks “Black Ants, don’t kill, they bring good luckâ€. So black ants are free to roam in our house. If they get too many (or disgusting), we just sweep them up and move them outside.

Funny how some women get about living the toilet seat up, they don't put it up for us gents, I expect some Indonesian houses have no seat, just the hole in the floor type, so no problem no seat

Yeah, I don't really mind how the toilet seat is left. I just find it hilarious that somewhere along the line, my husband got the idea that using the toilet seat while sitting down is gender specific. :)

Welcome to the forum Periwinkle and may I say I really enjoyed your little stories and sense of humour...looking forward to reading other pearls of how your husband dresses in your old clothes...too small for you!!! You got me there....I still have laughter tears as I'm typing and imagining....please, please learn how to attach pics...

Thanks so much! I'm not sure how he'd feel about me posting pics, lol. But if I can, I'll try to sneak some. :)

Hahahahah you made my day........ You husband is a real spartan!!!! "No prisoners" Auuuuugghhhh, "No toilet seats" Auuuuugghhhh hahahahaha.

As for the toes or fingers I understand him as I also have one word for fingers (on the hand or on the foot).

As for the clothing well...... my wife is kind of like your husband (she will not throw away clothes) ... eventually she will donate clothes for the maids. Usually my wife is wearing my clothes when she is cleaning house, cooking, sleeping (sometimes). Because it is "nicer and warmer".

It is supper hard to convince my wife to throw away any clothes or give it to someone! Our wardrobe is starting to look like promotion basket in matahari!

AC and gas..... my wife said the same 4 years ago. Now somehow she is not saying anything about AC. My wife also said that ordinary electrical air fan will give you gas as well.

As for the food from the stranger ..... well I wouldn't accept it not because of poison or black magic but simply because I am not convinced it was made in a clean environment with fresh ingredients. God knows how long it was stored and in what conditions it was kept all that time.

For sure about the food. I think he means at work or something. Sometimes, teachers will bring in fruit or snacks or food for their birthdays, and he doesn't want me to eat it. But I told him I just wait until everyone else has a bite first to comfort him.

Here is an odd thing, I go for a walk every morning, on my travels along the lanes and Kampung, I see various coins of the realm, nobody picks the up, until a while back when I mentioned to her that must be obeyed that I picked up2000rp, she was quite horrified, and I'm on orders not to pick the money up as its evil, quite strange really, all those coins and nobody wants them

I do this all the time, too. My hope is that eventually, a snack will just make itself.

That's also an oddity here in Bali.
I installed a mail box outside our villa but don't actually use it much as the postman knows if he hand-delivers there is some money or cookies to be had...or he is a dirty-old-postman and keen on our maid...nevertheless, I occasionally open, just in case, and all I ever find are some coins or 1000 Rp notes and many counterfeit notes.
I asked my Balinese maid what was this for and she just took the real money and put into her house-fund and threw the fake into the garbage...she said something about evil and good so I left it like that...but pondered "what can leaving money in mailboxes mean...and why does my pool water sometimes, for no apparent reason...turn green?'' The maid puts out her offerings, which my wife hates, and the water magically turns clear again.

Pool turns green Davita, check with the olympics for the reason and cure, see if the can sort it out, still it does sound like strange goings on

hahaha...I saw that green Olympic pool where earth-shattering Phelps gets all those medals. Maybe I should leave mine green and I might be able to complete one length without taking a rest...:first:

Or maybe Brazil can send my maid a ticket and she can bring some offerings....:pound:

Oh dearie me, I was just dragged away from my desk with "Honey, honey come quick, looking, looking- come ON honey fast!"
"Looking2 the cicak is fighting......."

I look up & a pair of cicaks are merrily humping away.
& then over on another beam, another pair- must be romance night in cicak land.

I do. Because I think that's the correct way.
The first time my husband noticed that was when he came back from work. He asked if we had a male guest that day. :D

Can anyone clarify why I'm not allowed to plant chilies in view of a door?
I never heard of it. If it's feng shui related, perhaps because chili is hot (yang). Fortune comes when you have water/fountain (yin) in the front yard.

This thread is about mixed marriage idiosyncrasies. Specifically, Indosyncrasies. Hehehe.
