Wow...a real eye opener this morning. First Media shut down. How many thousands/millions (besides me) are affected. One would think that a service company with so many customers would do things right!!!

Hmmm...might have been wrong there, First media is just now on again. The news said Bolt was blocked as well...guess they are on again too.

My understanding is that Bolt is blocked because of a tax dispute involving its use of bands within the wireless spectrum. First Media and Bolt are both owned by the Lippo group, so some media outlets erroneously reported that both were blocked. However, the tax / regulatory issue is only with the Bolt operating unit, hence First Media is safe. Sidenote: I am posting this via a First Media connection.

First Media might just as well have closed down for all the use they are. In the last three weeks or so our service has been disrupted 9 or 10 times including a period of 4.5 days where both the Internet and TV were down. Really poor!

Yes, they are not all that good but great when it is working. Funny thing is that when their service is down, they advise via email. Great!!! Can't go online so can't get email so don't know why they send it!!!

This is a funny little catch-22 isn't it. Kinda like Indihome with their app. If you call their customer service, they always include that you can report trouble via their app. Well, if my internet is dead, what good is that app....

People have email and Internet on their phones remember. Not everyone needs wifi to connect.

Yes but it's not the end of the world if you have no internet but you have a phone because you can still get online and check emails and browse the web, right?

My phone is only able to call and text. First Media could send SMS as my bank does.

I finally cancelled my First Media internet and cable TV subscription after months of frequent signal interruptions and expensive but still bad service.

Me too a while ago. The internet connection went down so often; probably 2-3 times a week. They were excellent about answering my calls and sending someone but it was always an "area" problem so they couldn't do anything about it. In the end i gave up with them.

In the case of First Media, shooting the messenger seems to be the appropriate response.

Im pretty sure that 5g phone system will wipe out all the ISPs in a few years anyway. I only know the basics but ive heard connections of 10gbps. Maybe someone on here knows more about this. I have heard that its likely to be only big cities due to technology limitations
