Very big news in Indonesia; the rape of an Indonesian student last Saturday.

Huge discussion in Social Media here, including the unavoidable debate on dress code and 'wild girls'. And everybody wants to get to know all details of course (which must be frustrating since there is an extended privacy protection in the Dutch press, it is only known he has a dark skin color and is 20 years old).

Anyway, it happened at 5 AM after she went home on bicycle from the Central Station and was followed. The perpetrator was caught later. It was a very brutal attack and she is in Intensive Care.

On the 31st of July there will be a silent procession following the route she took, as statement against sexual violence.

That’s very sad, I always thought of Holland one of the safest places in Europe, I had a mate mugged in Amsterdam, but not by a Dutchman, so I suppose you really have to be aware of your surrounds at all times, but one my travels through Europe, main railway stations were go places to avoid if possible, lots of low life seemed to hang around

I wonder if the perp thought there would be less chance of apprehension if he chose a person of color. Or perhaps that is assigning to much credit for devious intelligence; more likely just an ordinary racist bastard.

I would hardly call Indonesians "coloured" in fact more likely she would be wealthy enough to travel her only colour would be suntan or kylie makeup, also it was 5 a.m?

The rapist was dark skin
BTW on JPost they had to clarify that just because he had dark skin it did not imply he was African

"Person of color" is an American officialdom euphemism for anyone who is not white. Most Indonesians meet that rather broad characterization.

When we first got married, we went to Bali. We were on the beach and I decided to go for a beer, time flies as you know, when I returned I was quite startled to see a little black thing, my wife

Similar story when my girl-friend (now wife) and I had a holiday in Hawaii...she was in a bikini from sunrise to sunset and loved the beach....while I sipped cocktails under the attap roof of a beach bar.
One night we went to the popular Don Ho bar and, when he saw us, he started to sing "Ebony and Ivory...."

Today she avoids the sun like it was the plague.

My ex would only swim in neck to wrist to knee swimming costumes, partly out of modesty partly from fear of the sun's effect.

Well, since there is a huge population from the Antilles and Suriname living in Rotterdam, and that combined with statements from local residents it was ‘a black guy’....

Btw, the amount of people of (mixed) Indonesian descent in The Netherlands is more than 1,5 million people (according to NIOD). It’s huge, and there are quite some students from INDONESIA as well.
