Ok gang im in jakarta recoveing from emer eye surgery. Im staying in kemayoran central jakarta. Sooo i have a few days to kill. Im going to the U.S. embassy tomorrow to take care of some stuff while im here.
So can anyone tell me where i can buy a bottle of tequila? Also i rember someone said something about a bagel shop here and if anyone knows of a place that sells decent cheese that would be kool too.
Is the mall of indonesia worth going to to kill some time.

Any ideas what i should do here for the next couple of days (no amusment parks or thrill rides rember im recovering).Any realing good places in my area to eat will be looked into and if any of you faceless people want to meet up for a drink or a coffee and hangout with your northern cu, would be my pleasure to buy (at least the frist round). My wife stayed home to take care of the homestead.

Chow baby

Oh i forgot has anyone eaten at a place called the "Sexy Chicken" ? Either got to be real good or real bad but i like the name and its not to far from where im at.

You could go to Ancol, check out Sea World. Very close from where you live, only 15mn by taxi.

You can also go to Kota Tua, the old Jakarta, check out the museums at Fatahillah Square and have lunch or dinner at Cafe Batavia.

Rather than Mall of Indonesia, I would go to Plaza Indonesia and Grand Indonesia, lots to see if you like malls and you are sure to find your booze.

If you'd like the best margaritas in Jakarta, head over to Hacienda Mexican restaurant. There are 2 of them: one in Plaza Arcadia in Senayan, and one in Street Gallery at Pondok Indah Mall.

No idea about Sexy Chicken but be careful with Sexy Ayam, they're a whole different kind of animal and I'm not sure Penny would approve.

I'd meet with you but I'm heading to Bogor for the rest of the week with the family.

There are two Duty Free stores right near to McDonalds in Kemang. Get your booze there. I bought a 750 ml bottle of Jose Cuervo the other day for Rp 260,000 (or there abouts).

Eye surgery!!!??? Was your retina torn after all?

There's a place with multiple outlets called Bagel Bagel - here's their website: http://bagelbagel.co.id. I've never been there, but I have heard they are pretty good. (And if you just want a nice breakfast, try Koi, in either Kemang or Kebayoran.)

The tequila can be found at Red&White, which has numerous outlets (www.minuman.com). They have surprisingly good selection, service, and prices. (Still high due to duties, of course.)

I'd meet you for coffee somewhere but am sort of housebound at the moment due to a range of guests/family/work/social obligations over the next week. However, you would be more than welcome to stop by our house (Kebayoran Baru, near Darmawangsa Square) for drinks and miscellaneous eats. We had a big party a few weeks ago and are trying to dig ourselves out from under an absurd amount of leftover alcohol. I can offer gimlets, G&T, martinis, margaritas, and more. Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday are already booked, but Thursday or Friday evening works. PM me if you feel like heading in our direction. (We can swap eye stories...)

Jakarta is not a great place for hanging out, but the National Museum is pretty good. If you want to have an experience most visitors never have, come over Wednesday night (4 January) and play gamelan with us. It's easy to start and we don't play anything too inaccessible. (This is us last week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7XzfWiy5EU&feature=em-upload_owner).

Hope to meet you.

New info: My esteemed husband says there is a new bagel place at Plaza Senayan, upstairs at the food court. He doesn't remember the name but says it is hard to miss. Doesn't know if it is any good or not, as he has not been there.

Now that you mention it, I think it's bagel bagel, even if they don't mention it on their website.

Hold the presses, whaaat? The concept of duty-free outside an airport is totally new to me, what's the catch?

You must be new!!! It's been there for about 10 years to my recollection. It was intended for Embassy Staff and Diplomatics, who have some kind of card, but well known to sell to the expat public when the officials aren't around......which is every Friday during prayers....and most lunch breaks.
I used to live in the hotel down the street and would wait to see the guy at the door leave.....then rush in with cash and stock my bar.:pound:

A few years in Indo, but haven't spent any real time in Jakarta. I didn't think I was missing much, but this changes things

I was just kidding R.C.....I knew you'd been around.
It's been a while since I was last in Kemang myself as I moved to Bali and rarely come to Jakarta...only when forced due in-law family like now at Xmas...so not sure how the duty-free operates these days. Maybe someone that has used the place recently can advise better.

I go in, select my 3 bottles (limit) and pay. They may want to see your KITAS, maybe not. The store past McDonalds, after a right turn at the light then +/-200 meters, has a bigger selection. Enjoy.

Whattt, they said only pickup at airport!!!

I need to go with someone experienced!

cash only?

Thanks guys
Would love to see you guys bang pots and pans puspaw but overdid it today and eyes bugging me. Ill get in touch with you tomorrw if it feels better. After the embassy today walked around the national monument and almost went to the museum but instead walked to the plaza indonesia mall because goggle said there was a delicos bagel shop there. Well they lied and i hate upscale malls. Much perfer the malls that are much more downscale. Hell how many Rolexs does one need. The one i got only cost 15 bucks and tells great time twice aday. But did have a great thia lunch.

Seaworld might be kool or it might be depressing seeing im a scuba diver. Is it well set up? The one in the states is having troubles because of the orca breeding problems and getting run down.

And for the duty free alchol if i get over there ill give it a shot. Is there any other reason or things to check out down there. Id feel like a alcholic if i went all the over there just for alchol...but thinking about it lol.
Cheers
Will pm you puspaw

Seriously people, can we keep the duty free connections and their "officials" off the public web? We do not need to tempt fate and advertise certain duty frees do what they do. Remember the amazing duty free on Grand Wijaya? They had their doors closed for reason. Remember the year (I think 2010?) when they completely dry?

Simply send a PM and/or keep it to word of mouth.

SeaWorld itself is aquarium only, no mammals.

Dolphins and seals are in another park next door called Gelanggang Samudra.

If you'd rather see another kind of mall, head to Mangga Dua. Some buildings are specializing in electronics, others in tools, others in clothes, etc. But overall it's a massive mess and I think you will have good fun.

Or you could check out Pasar Baru or Tanah Abang markets.

Hi Steve,
I can't be of any help in Jakarta but if you need a few bottles of Jose Cuervo Especial back in Manado, give me a shout. I'll send you someone.

I've been there a couple times. Don't remember the name either but it's right next to a cinnabon place.
