Title : 42% of America’s recent college grads are working jobs that don’t need a degree. From Kathmandu to Paris, young people are taking to the streets
By Nick Lichtenberg , Oct 2026

... About 42% (June 2026) of recent college graduates, ages 22 to 27, were .. working jobs that typically don't require a bachelor's degree, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's tracker ...

(also) recent grads were more likely to be unemployed than the average worker .. The gap hit a record 1.8% in Apr 2025 ...

Turchin, a professor emeritus at the University of Connecticut .. has a name for this .. "elite overproduction". When a society produces more people aspiring to elite status than it has elite positions ...

Rana Foroohar argued .. this month that America is starting to look like Italy, where "older people are holding on to good jobs, and the young have trouble finding decent ones."

The September U.S. jobs report had unemployment at 7.1% for workers ages 20 to 24, against 3.6% for those 25 to 54 and 3% for those over 55 ...

She also argued that AI is favoring experienced older workers while squeezing entry-level jobs ...

As AI gains greater take up it will significantly reduce the number of job opportunities for these university graduates. The discontent that lies at the heart of this phenomena is already leading to thousands of young people massing to demonstrate against the perceived failings of governments to provide future opportunities. The implications are serious for so many countries including, of course, Indonesia.

Maybe I am missing something, but if we are in Indonesia, why do we care what the US is or isn't doing , seems all the news recently has just been about that place.
However...
Anyone who wants a decent job done by someone with experience would be smart to go for older people because for the most part we can work without our phone glued to our faces or anyone hovering over us micro-managing. :D not everyone obviously- there are good and bad apples, but as a generational thing I think my statement is fair.

Because in many cases (maybe the majority) what happens in USA : is also happening or will also happen in Indonesia and at our home countries , or will have some kind of consequences (economical , social , political , ..) all over the world .

And the reason why I post mostly from the USA's news is because they show a lot more interesting statistics , studies , analysis , ... than I find in the Indonesian (or my country's) news .
