Just a heads up to anyone going through the process of changing Kitap details due to there spouse/wife/husband / sponsors death . The immigration skimkim or simkim system now automatically updates both your marital status to either widow or widower and your Kitap to SELF SPONSOR when you report the spouse/sponsors death . If you get told you need to nominate a new sponsor tell them to check Law/Rule PP40/2023 Pasal 160 which states that an Orang Asing /foreign resident whose spouse/sponsor dies does not have to nominate a new sponsor but gets updated to SELF SPONSOR . With the new Kitap showing your name as Penjamin/sponsor . You only require a new sponsor if you are getting divorced . I have just been through this crap due to Immigration officers at both the Jember and Banyuwangi offices not knowing about there own laws/rules . I now have to cancel my Alhi Sponsor /Change of Sponsor application , 500,000rp gone with no refund even though it was there mistake and ensure that my details in there system align with the details on my account and new Kitap so I can process any future changes myself . The new Kitap is available by opening the My Application page on your personal account then opening Stay Permit page , pressing the ITAP box to the right of the change data box on the right of the page . It automatically downloads the new Kitap to your device . Laptop /Iphone etc . No screen opens showing the Kitap on the E-Visa page , Open the download and print several copies for any future dealings with Immigration . Also insist on getting a Surat Keterangan showing you have reported the death , your new Kitap sponsor details and marital status , they are supposed to issue this when you initially report the death . You will need it and a copy of the new Kitap when changing KTP and Kartu Kelauarga details at the Dukcapil Office . My E-Visa account got locked and the new sponsor application sat for 2 weeks showing "Waiting Confirmation " due to a conflict with the 2 different sponsor details in the system .

My condolences for your loss, and I think that having to navigate a lot of bureaucracy when grieving must be/have been a nightmare to get through.

Hi Marcus , I should have ask for your help rather than rely on google searches . I have just returned from the Banyuwangi Immigration office . I went to hand in the Surat to cancel my change of sponsor application after receiving a new Kitap on my personal account page showing me as self sponsored , my name beside the Penjamin . "Another mistake by Immigration ". The new kitap was an error in there system , when I submitted the application to change sponsors it conflicted with the information in the system and frose the application in my sponsors account . The officer rang the Director Generals dept in Jakarta to clear the account and verify if the change to Self Sponsor is valid . He was told "NO" . The system had made an error which is why the account was frosen and I would have to let the change of sponsor proceed and that the Self Sponsorship was an old option under rule/law 40/2023 Pasal 160 and no longer available unless you had been married for 20 years or more and then only in certain circumstances . So I am back to where I was a month ago , waiting for the change of sponsor to be approved before I can do the Mutasi Pasporand and verify all my details are correct so I can go to the Dukcapil Office to go through the same crap there to update my KTP and KK details . I assumed this had all been done by the female officer on my original visit . Wrong again , she had only processed the application for the new sponsors account and recorded my wifes death . I got home to a message that they require copies of my new sponsor's KTP , KK and Buku Nikah again which I gave them 2 months ago . The staff are always helpful in resolving the mistakes and constantly apoligise for something "Foreign Services " that has obviously been thrust apon them without sufficient training and knowledge . Exactly the crap I've been faced with for the last 3 months . The fee for the Lifetime Kitap was 10,500,000 before the fee increase in late 2024 ,now 15,000,000 + 8,000,000 for the Merp , 23,000,000rp . Wouldn't be surprised if the same people responsible for the fee increases are also involved in the big scam they've uncovered in Bali Immigration . Bali's just the tip of the iceberg , 300 + illegal KTP's issued to foreign worker here in Banyuwangi a few years ago . You could pay your fees over the counter about 6 years ago by card or cash , it all went to bank transfer after another scam was unearthed , my yearly Kitas fee dropped about 500,000rp after the change . I've just renewed my Australian Passport , $150 in 2015 , Cost me $720 with an overseas fee added in this year .

No law or regulation , just a NO and an error in the system was the reply from Jakarta . Possibly an excuse to cover there arses and ensure another 500,000rp in there funds . I'm at the point where I just want it all over with . Dealing with the wife's death and all this crap is starting to take it's toll on my health .

The Article 160 of Regulation PP no.40 Year 2023 issued in Aug 2023 (see below) is the newest rule I know , it is the revision of Article 160 of PP no.31 Year 2013 .

This statement from the Immigration officer is probably wrong because :
a) A 2023's rule (less than 3 years old) is not "old" ;
b) It is improbable that it has changed again after taking 10 years to change ;
c) I am not aware of any rule that mentions "married for 20 years or more" ;
d) There is a rule that mentions "married for 10 years or more" , that is Article 162 (see below) , which by the way was revised together with Article 160 using the same idea (in the old Articles , both required a sponsor , not required in the 2023's revision) .

I guess that the Immigration officer in charge decided to choose the wrong option . As Jstar (in post no.7) also pointed , I would ask Immigration for the newer Article 160 that he/she implicitly says , revised the Article 160 of PP no.40 Year 2023 .

I think that asking Immigration to show the newer Article 160 (that invalidated Article 160 of PP 40 Year 2023) as he/she argues , will make things easier for you in the future (worth to insist) .

It is what I assume this specific Immigration officer is saying .

Article 160 of PP no.31 Year 2013 did require a new sponsor . It was revised to 'not requiring a new sponsor' in Article 160 of PP no.40 Year 2023 .

So this Immigration officer is basically saying that he/she wants to apply the canceled year 2013's rule (not the year 2023's one) .
