Slowly but certainly not surely the worldwide position of women in society inches forward. For the first time in history the conservative Liberal Party in Australia, which got thumped at the just held Federal elections, has elected a woman as leader of the party.

On the other hand, just watching a report of Trump's visit to Saudi Arabai with a line of people being introduced to Trump and Prince Mohammed Prince Salman. As each stepped forward they shook hands with Trump and the Prince. It was very noticeable that one of the few, if not the only woman, in the line spoke for a moment with the leaders but the Prince did not offer his hand.

About that particular example:
After visiting quite a lot of (Muslim) weddings here, where you’re not supposed to shake the hand of the bride, an explanation I always got was that according to Islam, a Muslim man or woman, is not allowed to shake hands with the opposite gender. Well, I wondered if this was really true or as so often, just an interpretation. Without wanting to offend anyone, I found this was written in a Hadith: “It was narrated that Ma’qil ibn Yassaar said: the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “For one of you to be stabbed in the head with an iron needle is better for him than that he should touch a woman who is not permissible for him.”.
And then the discussion about what is ‘touching’ obviously starts. I guess everybody will make up his/her own mind. Where’s Dan btw, after leaving Aceh and moving back to the US?

Btw, there are (only) 14 women in president Prabowo’s cabinet of 104 ministers and deputy ministers. Does not really represent society.

Particularly in my country , women are the majority of the families' head (51% in 2022) , when they were 36% in 2012 and only 20% in 1996 .
There they are now the majority of universities' students and the majority of medical doctors too .

Spot on. There are some more liberal Muslims that will shake hands between genders but for the most part it is more acceptable not to.

So, when did this self proclaimed messenger of Allah exist. Hadiths are personal interpretations of what this or that person thinks at a given time as to what the Quran means or what Islam is. Most came hundreds of years after the Quran of which Muslims swear is what is to be followed.

As for the hadiths it seems that people for the most part just pick and choose what they agree with and ignor the rest. Even hadiths that have multi parts are divided up into, OK, I can follow this but I don't like that. Circumcisions are only in a Hadith. The same Hadith that says keep fingernails tried and pluck out the underarm and genital hair. One they seem to think us gospel while others they chose to ignore. Men growing beards is in the same Hadith.

I think Harry’s post was addressing more the perception of the public and the acceptance of women in important functions?

Example: We all love or hate Kamala Harris, right? Whatever we think of the competence of the woman, it is rather significant that an argument used by opponents, that she ‘slept’ into promotions and higher positions. (Well, they used BJ instead but soit.) If you compare that to Donald, nobody seemed to have problems with“grab them by the pussy” remarks, bankruptcies and fame because of a TV show. Those double standards in a society are very telling.

BTW, in my company in that same society, we received points for hiring minorities, not only women. And if you could hire a lesbian woman from Native American descent you’d almost get a medal from HR. And when I wanted to fire an employee because of her incompetence, they thought I was a sexist pig. So I don’t disagree with everything you say…

Competence and gender aren't mutually exclusive. Assuming women are less competent just because of equality efforts is exactly the bias equality tries to fix.

This is an interesting issue. Equality is fine when it applies to mental skills or other skills that are not based on physical strength. It is just a plain simple fact, that Men and Women are not built the same! Men have a body that is usually much larger and stronger. Yes there are some exceptions, some women are big, and some men are small. women have menstruation, So in the case of the Military, there has to be adjustments for these issues. But as for skills besides physical strength, they should be treated equally.
As for Women and Men in the civilian life, there has been major inequality when it comes to the pay scale. It is just not right that a Man doing the same job as a Woman should be payed more! That is easy to understand, and I am all for EQUAL RIGHTS that they are payed fairly and equally for their work.
The part about Femicide, or Homicide is a silly point to make a fuss over! Neither are good! And having to have a Military is a Sad state of affairs! It is such a shame that the Humans on this Planet can't live in Peace, and use all those Trillions of Dollars for the betterment of the Planet and all that live on it, and not Waste this Money on Killing each Other!

I agree, that a job position should be base on the ability, and competence of a person being selected by who is most Qualified. Not by the Race, Color, Sex, or Strength of an individual!
