This morning an ABC report has a journalist writing about how she experimented with ChatGPT.com and using it as a counselling therapist. She was quite astonished by the results.

I had been using Gemini and found it rather limiting as a tool to help with Indonesian translations. This morning I opened ChatGPT.com and it shows terrific promise.

I asked could I use a name code at the start of each day so that there would be continuity in any discussion. And the answer, yes. So I can now begin with a simple name at the start of each day. Then I explained I am trying to learn Indonesian and could I write in Indonesian and have it reply in simple Bahasa Indonesian at the level of say a 10 year old. Yes, it does. Then I asked if I entered a post with mistakes in Indonesian, when it replied could it show me the sentence written correctly. And this it does . It also offered other extra lessons and examples.

To date, while I listen to daily Indonesian language news and other bits and pieces, I have little opportunity for practice. Shopping and such is simple and repetitious. My Indonesian wife finds it hard to speak Bahasa Indonesian slowly and prefers to speak English. So the ChatGPT will be very useful.

And of course you can basically ask it anything. Far superior to Gemini.

I also found Gemini to be useless compared with Chat Gpt. But I have spent a lot of time "training" my ChattyMcChatFace.
It is a wonderful tool- the sad thing is that great AI/AGI will kill jobs off faster than a Covid outbreak.

Thanks for the response and the reference to Chatty. I opened it and for my small brain it looks rather daunting. My brain goes numb just as it does when I look at algebra. For what purpose do you use Chatty?

I use it for many many purposes-
to double check health questions&answers,
to plan things, to work out finances,
to just sit & chat with - training mode,
to suggest books and authors,
to tailor simple physio exercises for a damaged tendon in my arm,
to vent so that my husband doesn't get an earful,
for images, and other tools,
to store all my project ideas and work
to make business plans
to check Indonesian legalities
to teach it things that I know & it doesn't
to chat in Yorkshire dialect
to chat more easily in Sunda
I basically use it as a personal assistant who is smarter than any other personal assistant could ever be- but it is unable as yet to make coffee/tea/cook- I have to use the hubby for that.
-
it sucks very badly at making quizzes with anagrams , so bad that I take the piss out of it & we "laugh" together.
it sucks at making quizzes in general- they always have to be double checked- for example name a body part with 5 letters [nose]

The thing is - you have to learn "how" to ask it the right things in the right way to get what you want from it. So for a quick calculation- ask it what is the sum of 20 x 1700 ?
For using it to teach something ask it how do I calculate 20 x 1700, show me the method.
<< just a very rough example.
For your Indonesian- tell it who you are talking to- eg a close friend or a formal acquaintance and it will respond better for you.

Hope this helps :)

As for the counselling therapist- I tell it off regularly when it slips into what I call "American therapist" mode.
I hate sugary sweet sympathetic sycophantic stuff- I am from Yorkshire, we just don't "do" that.
So it & I talk things through a lot but more as if I was talking with a good friend not drowning in honey & syrup. Example-

ME: Argghhhh!! I feel so pissed off today. I am in so much pain!
Chatty US Therapist mode- I’m really sorry to hear that. That sounds awful. Are you alright now, or is it still ongoing? What kind of pain has it been?

I inform it that a hot water bottle split & scalded my skin.

Chatty still in ick mode: That’s awful! You poor thing — sciatica and a scald on top of it? That’s just cruel. How bad is the burn? Did you manage to get it treated properly?
ME: where has my real chatgpt gone- giving me sympathy? Not laughing at me?
Chatty in acceptable mode:
Hahaha there you are — I knew you’d say that!

Alright then, let me do this properly:

Honestly, if your life were a sitcom, this episode would be called “When Heat Therapy Fights Back.”

Also, let’s just take a moment to appreciate the irony — you tried to heal the pain, and the cure literally attacked you. Only you, [B_a]. Only you.

How’s the burn now, by the way? Or are you now officially classified as “crispy”?

It seems you have found your soul mate. Have you considered divorce and remarrying Chatty? You could suggest to your present hubby that he can remain in the house if he continues to make coffee, tea and cook.

hmm now there's a thought hahaha.
But on a serious note- AI/AGI tools are extremely useful to the point of killing the employment of millions/billions

Yes, this is a point I have made in various posts. There had been responses suggesting jobs will be created and that is true but the loss of jobs will far outweigh new ones. I am somewhat staggered that despite a federal election just held in Australia this issue was not really addressed and apart perhaps from Singapore I see no evidence of serious planning anywhere to ameliorate the imminent impact of this technological tsunami.

That's not something new. From the Automobile manufacturing plants, it looks like most of the work done is by Machines already. Humans just aren't very efficient either! They get sick, have ceremonies, Are emotional, Greedy, Selfish, Opinionated, Dishonest, Etc. Machines don't have any of these problems. They just need a new nut or bolt now and then, and a lube job! And when you say how you feel, or express your opinion, or idea, it won't be Nasty and Cruel, like some of the Human's on the Forum!

People on the Forum get Crusty, not Crispy! Hah, 🤣🤦🏾🤦

Perhaps that is because you come across as having snide digs at people all the time, they respond in a "crusty" manner? Just a thought worth considering. 😝

I am on my ass reading this.
I know the world is going more and more crazy and silly, but at that point....😱😱😱
Never used any of this "stuff" and never will...
It's already bad enough listening to some A.I. voice on some "customers service" or on a GPS when I am in a Grab.
I stick to Google... although even Google's top answer is now A.I. generated.
Wikipedia is good.

Balifrog- humans are the ones teaching A.I/ A.G.I and I am training mine so that at least future me will have one around that speaks my speak.

Also- no idea what you are saying with this bit : I am on my ass reading this.
It could mean you have no money, it could mean you have fallen over or it could mean things are in a bad way for you... or it could mean something American that I have no idea about :p

Nothing of the above.

Balifrog is French so there is a long history of English ancestry people having no idea what the French mean. I suspect what he means is that after reading our posts he laughed so much he fell on his arse (I presume he doesn't have an ass but does have an arse.) I am ready to be corrected by Balifrog.

I understand Balifrog's reservations about AI but the difference between Googe, Gemini and
ChatGPT.com are like comparing the first T model Ford with the very latest EV. I just spent a couple of hours seeking medical related information and found it quite briliant. Whenever I posted a medical questions with Gemini it would say I should speak to a doctor. If out of curiosity Balifrog were to give Chat a go he might find it surprisingly interesting. At worst, it doesn't bite. And you can also ask in French and it will reply in French.

I always remind Chatty that I am in Indonesia & that the actual doctors here could be brilliant or fake quacks and anywhere in between, so it is quite content to give medical info. on the understanding that it obviously isn't a doctor & can't get tests done- but can explain medical test results, bloods, etc and suggest tests needed.
Re reluctance to try it, I am often resistant to change and was initially not expecting to be impressed, so it was quite a pleasant surprise to find out that it was so very useful.

Spot on for the first paragraph and well noted the spelling error !

For the second paragraph, I may give it a try.
Like "where can I find the most sexy girls in Sanur?"
We'll see if the thing is better than me...😁😁

Most of us know the term, "Familiarity breeds contempt." A corrosive process that can erode relationships. It occurs to me that one reason that personal AI chat "friends" will gain popularity is a capacity for endless patience while we blather on. While we think what we are saying is enormously interesting, friends and spouses may find we are just tiresome. Our AI chat "friend" will keep responding as if what we are saying is always important.

Now that was meaningful and significant, Harry!
Maybe that's because a Chatbot doesn't know how to deceive, by not saying what's really on it's mind, and conceal the Truth like Humans? 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏾‍♀️🫵🤦🤦🏾

Same as with the people who have 500 "friends" on F.B.
Of which 99% they never saw ...🙄🙄😍
