At $5000 US a month I trust the bathroom fittings are made with gold.
Cipete is in South Jakarta, not very central. US$5,000 a month ?? US$5,000 is the salary for majority of an Indonesian household, enough to feed a family for a year.
Just to provide a balance view.
This is in Kemang 5BR, 5Bathroom IDR26.6m per month. I guess the owner of the house will either get a jackpot or they get a dusty phone.

Unfortunately some Indonesians think that foreigners are a cash minting machine.

$5000 is just crazy and its equal to robbing someone in my opinion.

What you didn't know, money grows on trees in Western countries? Yea people just sit back, wear Ray bans, drink wine, and just reach out from their chairs, and pick money off the trees, it's true, you have your choice of $100, $50,$20, $10, and $1.00 bills! Everyone has a new car, house, great schools, for the kids, free medical needs. They come here to just give it all away to these poor people who are always crying Bankrupt, Bankrupt! Because they can go home and do nothing, and pick more money off the trees when needed.

In addition to a monthly rent of $5,000, there’s also a maintenance fee of IDR 4,500,000. Given the quality of construction and building materials in Indonesia, and hourly rate of builders, cost of acquiring land (for wni) by saving $5,000 plus IDR 4,500,000 each month, one could potentially afford to own a similar property in the same area within 10 years or less. If you save $5,285 monthly at a 4% annual interest rate, you would accumulate approximately $778,215 in 10 years. I believe it will be enough to build the house like this in Jakarta.

regardless of whether the price is worth offered; but the accommodation of USD 5000 and above have their own niche market even though the percentage is very small but the number still thousands, Not necessarily foreigner. Indeed majority of Indonesian earn less than USD 5000 a year but small percentage - even just an employee - might earn more.
A number of multinational companies - what I know for sure is the IOC where I used to work, provide a housing budget allocation of around USD 5000 - USD 8000 depending on the position which must be used; and cannot be cashed. Depending on the location of placement, USD 5000 - 8000 can be very luxurious like I once lived for 6 years in Egypt, my backdoor neighbor is the son of Husni Mubarak; or just nice and comfortable in the Netherlands, Singapore or Kazakhstan.

Typically a residence for an ambassador ... rent paid by tax money.

I believe the budget for ambassador is far more. My neighbor in Egypt, France ambassador he lived in huge villa, more than twice of mine, facing the golf court, big swimming pool - cost probably more than USD 10K per month.

10 and more years ago there were far more international companies here that paid these kinds of home rental prices for their executives they brought in. While there are less International companies, lay offs and replacing foreign workers with local have caused the high price, (over priced) housing market to get hurt. While there are still companies that will pay for them, there is a glut in these properties. What is always funny is that the majority of owners will let them set empty instead of lowering the price and the following year, raise the price more.

These complexes were primarily built for the staff of international oil companies, who mostly left about 10 years ago. Even the heads of UN organizations only get a budget of under $3,000.
The $5000+ accommodation budgets are very rare these days.

Good to know, I didnt work for UN.
i checked my colleague in my previous company as dont have the access anymore- the housing budget is still remain, infact there are adjustment on the few hardship location. Unfortunately - or fortunately for the employee, Indonesia is still considered a hardship location, the premium allowance is still good.

Another big difference is that these days there are lots of very high-end service apartments in the centre of town (some large ones even $5000), which single people would probably prefer to the hassle of a house. So it is mainly the people with families who need to be near a school that will go for the houses.

To my knowledge, when multinational companies or diplomatic staff from foreign countries get rental subsidy for their employers, the support is typically adjusted according to the local cost of living, rental market, and average salary in the respective countries. For instance, while $5,000 might be insufficient in high-cost places like Switzerland, Iceland, or Scandinavian countries, it could be more than adequate in a country like Indonesia.

It also depends on the length of the stay. For example, $5,000 may not be unreasonable for a short-term stay of a month or less, where an alternative could be a spacious family suite in a five-star hotel. However, the situation changes significantly if it's for a rental period of two years.

IMO There might be another phrase to be added in here ... AND
.... there is an allowance for children’s schooling at international schools, as well as a housing allowance, as part of a temporary relocation or secondment package from their employers. Tuition at an international school can be around US$25k-40k per child per year ....

In the past, this might have been not uncommon for foreign workers from Western countries in Indonesia's oil, gas, and mining sectors, but it is now relatively rare. Today, many foreign workers in Indonesia are from China working in construction Industry, smeltering, working in IKN, etc. It is very unlikely that Chinese companies would be willing to pay US$25k-40k pa for a single child’s international school tuition in Indonesia, plus $60k pa in housing allowance, in addition to the salaries. Such costs would likely cause Chinese companies to be facing severe financial difficulties or even go bankrupt.

For Indonesians, only a very small percentage can afford to pay $5,000 in monthly rent and/or US$25k-40k pa for exclusive school fees. However, they are generally not naive; why rent at that price when they could buy the property outright and break even within less than ten years? Additionally, unless there is a personal / family reason, many would choose to send their children to prestigious schools abroad rather than international schools in Jakarta. The quality of International school in Jakarta are nowhere near the quality of world renown prestigious independent school such as Eton college.

This is the minimum wage across Indonesia.

Keep in mind minimum wage has a direct correlation with the cost of living. Vast majorly of the provincial region in Indonesia has minimum wage below IDR3m pm.

Not for people earning 3 million Rp.

Yes the one I mention previously has it all

Moreover, the property offers more space, with a total land area of 900m², and costs only a fraction of the $5,000 or IDR 26.6 million per month. This is just one example, and forums like this play a valuable role in helping foreigners make more informed decision.

For foreigners receiving housing and schooling allowances as part of their relocation packages, rent and school fees become less relevant since these expenses are covered by their company and cannot be converted to cash.
