New customs regulation, only 5kg of processed food allowed per person?

Just came back from Saudi 2 days ago. Filled out the online form, they guy scanned it, looked at my luggage tags and waved me on through. So far have never been checked by Indonesian customs in 6 years at the airport. Shipping things in is a completly different story though. Always have to pay a big bill.

Yeah, I think shipping in is often a bit more "delicate" so to say.
Just asking cause I heard my wife talking with her friend on the phone, seems like a lot more people complain about more checks. How valid that information is, I don't know.

If it's there, I didn't see it. As a matter of fact, Immigration and Customs seems to be much faster than it has ever been. At least in my recent experience. YMMV.

Maybe inbound flights from the kingdom get preferential treatment. Just curious, did you bring back ZamZam water? I have seen people bring back 19-litre jugs from when they did Umroh, and it seems like a rather heavy item to check in as baggage.

Zamzam water is a special. All airlines allow 1 5gallon (or it might be 5 liter) jug free and it gets checked. Of course any above 32kg etc is extra baggage assuming you're over since water is heavy

Just curious, does the water count as one of the two checked bag allowance, or is it treated differently?

I mean you can't take it on board
Must be checked

Obviously that‘s Saudi Airlines. Many others only offer 23 kilo Economy and 40 for Business. Besides gold and ahem dates I’m not so sure what to take from there. And these are easy to get anywhere. Petroleum and cement would not be so useful. And a VAT of 15% doesn’t really help either.


A family member flew in to JKT from Europe and there were no additional checks. So business as usual.

I mean that whatever you are allowed to carry, the 5liter is excluded.

So you can take your max allowance plus 5l

Even all 23 / 32 / 40kg limit etc can be ZZ but still the extra container is free

Actually most international flights I think is 32 ?

Anyway you get my point. I'm not saying it is 32 for every airline. Besides not many fly to Saudi?

And they return to the previous rules like $500 per person, somewhat different for families etc.

To avoid 2 years of jail time for slander it’s probably wise not to say anything more…

Think about it some more? More like normal and finally getting around to think about it at all. So many, "hey I have an idea so I'll make it a policy" with no thought or discussion. So typical. From the kampungs to the national government, policies are rife with these unthought out ideas.

Very different though, not about travellers in the airport; that was a shipment via DHL (which is more Catholic than the pope). Secondly, they lied on the declaration form with the value; they wrote down 500K instead of 5 juta or so.
