What is the reality of having helpers in Indonesian households?

Looks like the demand is getting higher as Indonesians start drinking more milk, while production is still lagging.

Actually, the FMD outbreak in 2022 obliterated local farms in West Java and East Java. Local milk production is improving but the majority of the milk in the supermarkets is reconstituted import.

I dare anyone to show proof they pay their domestic workers even close to the UMR. Granted Jakarta domestic workers get higher pay than those outside Jakarta but I have never heard of anyone paying domestic workers UMR.
I know a local friend who pays her maid (5 days a week) 3 million a month. The maid is older and also has been working with her family for a long time.
For me, I was raised and taught to do my own stuff, and having a maid is considered as "luxury" in our culture. Now I have a helper who comes in every 2 weeks for deep cleaning. It cost 65,000 rp/hour. She does it in 3 hour (small apartment). I highly recommend to have a helper. I never tasted the sweet laziness till I moved to Indonesia haha.

also, as an East Asian, having a helper is not common in middle class here. I was surprised too.

As long as these workers feel satisfied with this amount of money, I guess it's OK. But it's not nice to exploit someone, if this is what you're doing!
Showing kindness, by being generous, is Good Karma!

My wife employs a staff of about 15 including household and her clothing business. Everyone is free to leave at any time but she has had some of them for 20 years. She must be doing something right.

I agree!

As much as I enjoy less housework, I also feel a good amount of guilt when the helper is cleaning. I have this urge to help cleaning as well. I guess it's due to my parents education lol.

But yeah, I highly encourage ppl to help your maid and helper. My helper would borrow money from me because her life is not easy at all as her husband is disabled and she has 2 sons. It was never a big sum (100 to 300rb) and it only happened 3 times over a year. I never really asked the money back, but she would deducted from her payment (and then I would tip her). And in return she's always honest and hardworking. Couldn't ask more than this.

Be kind!
