Waste Management in Indonesia

Recycling is not really the answer as after two or three recycles the polymer chain grows shorter, so its quality is reduced and it can no longer be used. As for small and smaller particles or nano particles they are now everywhere including in the flesh of the oceans fish and the blood of humans. No wonder the churches are preaching Amageddon as it seems everywhere you turn there are catastrophic outcomes. Mind you churches have been preaching for centuries that Amageddon is imminent. The present worldwide problems certainly make relgious demands for donations much more pressing.
And what exactly is the other alternative of plastic, cheap, durable and work as a bonding agent, insulator ??

Plastics, particularly thermosetting polymers like epoxy, polyester, and polyurethane, are commonly used as bonding agents in composite materials due to their strong adhesive properties and durability. These characteristics also make them suitable for manufacturing non traditional bricks, especially when managed and processed properly. With effective recycling, plastic waste can be transformed into bricks or even new plastic bottles. Unlike traditional clay bricks, plastic-based bricks are significantly more durable, so that they may outlast the very people living in the homes built with them, reducing the need for frequent replacement or recycling.

Plastic in composite materials has been used in many applications such as the hull of ship, aircraft.

That's exactly what many city scavengers and disadvantaged families are doing to earn a living e.g collecting plastics and metals for resale. By establishing designated sorting points, it becomes easier for them to find and collect these materials, ultimately helping to improve their income.

And how are plastic bricks regarding flammability? I am not opposed to recycling and it definitely does have value but ultimately it requires a turning away from all the plastics which are creating so much ugly and dangerous waste. Which ever way you look at it the only seriously impactful means of dealing with this is for the petroleum industry to carry the major costs associated with getting to grips with the problem. As I understand it, the industry if preparing to triple production.

Although plastics may not be as fire-resistant as traditional bricks from clay, they are still safer than materials like wood or bamboo, rattan. Additionally, their lighter weight helps reduce the overall structural load in construction.

Plastic bags commonly used for shopping are primarily produced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs), rather than large corporations. When these SMEs are required to switch to more expensive materials, they typically respond by simply raising their prices.

Moreover, when people are pushed to adopt more costly product alternatives, it often leads to the emergence of a black market. I've already mentioned that there are regulations banning the use of disposable plastic bags in shopping centers, supermarkets, and traditional markets, in Indonesia. But I’ve also provided evidence that these regulations have not effectively curbed their use particularly in traditional markets.

That's what I've been saying all along! Stop these Greedy Corporations from paying off all the Politicians, and hold them accountable for all the Plastic they're selling! Make them take back, and deal with the problem before they can start this Triple Production! The Corporations will use every power thay can to continue them Not being held accountable! Where are all these AI computers now, when we need their help to come up with a safer solution? And that's a good point about the Flammability of Plastic Bricks. Just look at all this polyester fabric we use now. Drop just a spark on it and it burns a hole instantly in your clothes, and is ready to ignite!
We have to Stop using Petroleum Products completely. Before we completely destroy this Planet! I love using Plastic, but I don't Love Petroleum!

We likely wouldn't be using as much plastic if everyone hadn't gone on a save the trees campaign so hard. You should know what damage the alternatives will do as well. The same thing I have been saying about EVs.

"We have to Stop using Petroleum Products completely. Before we completely destroy this Planet! I love using Plastic, but I don't Love Petroleum!"

Very easy, simply go back to how we lived 300 years ago.
Sailboats, no planes, no industry, no electricity, no cars but horse carriages, etc...
Now tell me, how many of them stupid tree huggers want to go back there ?
Just take away their phones, internet, Tiktok, FB...they are crying on their knees 😁😁😁

You may be right, but you may be wrong! I didn't say that we should stop using plastic. I said that we should develop a new source of material to make plastic, instead of Petroleum! The solution probably has already been developed, but is kept hidden by the powerful Petroleum industry. Lets try to be positive and come up with new ideas. And you know, It might not be such a bad idea to slow down. I know how to milk a cow, make dairy products, tan leather, start a fire, build a shelter, etc! I would be happy to teach people how to do these things! Let's Hope for a brighter Future! 🙏👍✌️🥳🌹

"New" energies just pile up on top of existing ones....
It's in French but easy to understand.
Note the chart small dip on the right is due to Covigedon.

One does need a sense of humour in life. So putting it simply without all the graphics, whichever way you look at it, we're stuffed.

Be assured that I take all this stuff with a large pinch of salt and some cynisme....
i survived, without particular precaution :
  • The hole in the ozone layer
  • The end of oil on earth (every 25 years)
  • AIDS, which was going to exterminate all "free style" very active party boys like me
  • Danger from nuclear activity
  • Climat change that was to be the end of the world at + 1,5 C
  • Invasion by the Russians

To make it short : I don't give a hoot !
And even less at my age.

Dumb way to die is at home, old, emaciated, terminal ilness, taking daily pills since years and with having lived a boring "normal" life ....

My way is more "full speed ahead and f*ck the torpedoes".
Much more fun !
I Think your RIGHT, Dumb way to Die, is not funny at all. If you look closely it makes killing and chopping up these cartoon characters, seem normal. It is this kind of humor that is ruining our society! Just look at Television and movies now, and what is considered appropriate for children to watch. The censorship boards allow Bombings, People getting slaughtered by guns, knives, and other forms of violence, but People making love and having Sex is Taboo. Is this from the teachings of All the Religions we have now?

Maybe send a few of our techocrats to SGP ?

Note : Bali land surface is 8 X bigger than SGP
SGP population 6 million vs Bali 4,4 million.

Just an update reported today on the massive algal bloom problem which has wasted the fishing industry and all but wiped out many tourist activities in South Australia. It is a harbinger of where the world's oceans are headed.

If you need to pay IDR 3.5m a month for your garbage to be collected, what do you think the people will be doing ? In the meanwhile dumping it into the river, by the roadside, burning it is free.
