VITAS to KITAS conversion in one day?

Maaf, misleading thread title. Not in one day.

My VITAS to KITAS conversion took less than 7 hours start to finish.

After reading all of the good advice in these threads over the years, I was prepared for a 2 to 5 week wait for the process...piles of photocopies, waiting around for an interview, endless hours waiting at Kantor Immigrasi, smiling when being misdirected, etc.

At KANIM KELAS I TPI CIREBON (Jl. SULTAN AGENGTIRTAYASA NO. 51) in Kedawung, they have a fast-track process for foreigners. If one submits all of the proper paperwork before 0900, then the process will be completed at approx. 1400.

We were shocked and (needless to write) very pleased.

Excellent service, very kind staff. We were the only people in the 'foreign' section and so things went smoothly.
(Amazing to be honest: We arrived at the desk at 0815 I received an email stating that my application had been approved at 0902!!! We waited until 1315 to return to the office since that is what we were told.)

Tips:

• the parking lot is full at 0740 so be advised (office opens at 0730)
• make sure to have a device with internet access so that you can complete a required Google Form when picking up documents. (no free wi-fi in building)
• wear long trousers/slacks and shoes to the office. no shorts & sandals allowed. (I was denied entry when we went to pick up blank forms)

Congratulations to you for experiencing this development. This is quite impressive for an immigration office that's not in a big city where bureaucracy horror stories seem to happen more often.

Spouse.

Two of our kids were with us as we applied, and perhaps that satisfied the 'interview' portion?
