Title : Forget DeepSeek. China’s real ‘Sputnik moment’ is happening on campus as American universities lose their advantage
By Mia Osmonbekov , August 2026

... Harvard Business School's Josh Lerner and his co-authors dug into who is actually filing the patents behind the 14 technology areas the Pentagon deems critical—advanced computing, space technology, AI, hypersonics and biotech. The answer: Chinese universities account for more than 25% of the country's inventions in those fields, 8x the U.S. rate at 3.3% ...

The share of Chinese critical-technology patents containing "disruptive" technical language jumped from under 2% in the early 1990s to 16% by 2022, closing in on the American share of roughly 20% ...

In June, Harvard lost the top spot in the Nature Index Research Leaders—a closely watched measure of high-quality research output—for the first time since the index began tracking universities in 2015. Among academic institutions, Zhejiang University ... moved into first place, with Harvard falling to second. Including the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a government research body rather than a university, Harvard falls to third place. Nine of the top 10 academic institutions globally are now Chinese; 5 years ago, 8 of the top 10 were American ...

China surpassed the U.S. in total R&D spending for the first time in 2024, investing $1.03 trillion to America's $1.01 trillion, and has reached via R&D growth topping 14% annually since 2004, more than double the U.S. pace.

Title : Apollo chief economist says ‘China Shock 2.0 is here’ as new wave of Chinese technology floods global markets—and it’s bad news for American companies
By Mia Osmonbekov , August 2026

... "China Shock 2.0 is here," Torsten Slok, chief economist at Apollo Global Management ($840 billion in 2025 as per Wikipedia), wrote last week. He argued that this time, China is increasingly exporting the kinds of products that advanced economies once expected to dominate domestically, namely: EVs, semiconductors and other high-tech goods ...

Federal Reserve economists penned a note in May : "China Shock 2.0" theme, ... the products driving China's export boom changed from labor-intensive goods in the early 2000s to capital- and tech-intensive industries now ...

And every year the quality gets better and better also.
I mean example hair clippers. Imagine you buy online a perfectly decent set of hair clippers with accessories for less than $10 including shipping and a year later expecting to have to buy another set but oh no they still working perfectly. In fact they cost me less than 100rb so about $6
Work perfectly every time (well twice a year when I need my back sack and crack done before I go to the waxer in Ambassador lol )

The whole attitude of the current US government trying to bully the world on trade and tariffs will permanently hurt them.

I’ve lost millions of dollars in sales to Chinese companies counterfeiting US patented products in the last 5 years. Even if you can get one company to stop selling them, 5 more will pop up the next week.

Many Chinese products were just disposable junk 20 years ago. I recall going to mainland China to inspect goods. One batch would be perfect, the next 50% rejects.

I see a lot of high quality EV, electronics and much more coming out of there these days. If they can penetrate the US vehicle market, I’d say they would dominate it in 10-20 years. That’s why I’m selling my Ford shares, but hanging onto my BYD and similar stocks.

My kid has also been learning Mandarin for the last 5 years.
