Ukrainian tourist suffers permanent eye injury after beaten by bouncers in Seminyak

In disturbing piece news first distributed via social media, it was reported that Ukrainian tourist, Sarkisian Argam (32) was severely beaten by bouncers at La Favela bar in Seminyak. The beating was so severe that Mr. Argam is now permanently blind in his right eye.

The incident started when Mr Argam disputed the bill for his drinks. Mr Argam refused to pay the bill which was simply handwritten by the bartenders, contending that they have jacked up the prices. This quickly escalated and he was taken outside and beaten by the bouncers.

La Favela's management has issued a statement of apology, and the police following intense social media pressure have launched an investigation. So far 3 men have been detained.

This incident pretty much sums up why I avoid Kuta/Seminyak nightlife. Security is basically provided by "community organizations" (read: gang members), so be very careful not to piss them off.

That sucks. If the story is mainly true he sure did not deserve that. What can a person say? I guess its a thugs life.

According to the friends that posted in on social media, he never refused to pay the bill. He asked for a menu to compare the prices that were written down and instead of getting that he got the security who took him outside.

yeah, nice the owners wrote a nice letter and are taking some responsibility but let's face it, this is big and a bad, bad thing for the club. No one was doing anything, including the police until it hit social media and went immediately viral because it was a warning to tourist. From some of the things i have read, any club that name starts with "La" is owned and operated by the same people. There have been many negative reports of physical altercations from the security personnel over a long period of time with no action from the police. Now it has the potential for hurting tourism so the police act. Now it has a greater potential for hurting business at these clubs so they act. The owner, manager, and security personnel should all be going to jail based on this and past performances.

Dreadful story, but shocking? Not really. In a proper country, the owners would suffer the consequences, but I'd say nothing will happen here. The toerag bouncers will probably get a few months, a small fine and will be back staffing Indomaret car parks in no time. Just from reading the statement posted on Facebook it's clear that management (or whoever wrote the post) doesn't feel at all responsible. It's the same old story: it's not my fault and blame someone else. In this case the blinded victim and the vermin you employed. Shameful shit.
