That would have given him exactly what he wanted according to you. I guess it comes down to to how you define extend. Are they talking about extended the time? Which is the way I understand it. If not why wouldn't they just use the word raise like they did for the democrats. Either way I assume you would rather see the government shut down that would 100% happen if we do nothing?

I Remember last time He was Prez. He shut down the Government because he wasn't getting his way, and it Created Chaos! Why is this an issue every year? There seems to be a timeline, that gets closer and closer, until someone has to Capitulate over something? Is the Government that Bankrupt, that this threat happens every Year?
Before the Election, I remember this issue was discussed quite often and it was said that He only wanted to raise the Debt ceiling, so he would have the Money to Run the Country, and Give all the Oligarchs their Huge Tax Breaks! Which would put the Country in Greater Debt! Does everyone remember this discussion taking place then?

I will be honest with you I read the article 5 times and didn't catch that part until you specially mentioned it. I thought it read differently. My apologies. However I would like to note that when the Republicans try to stop debt increases that can shut down the government. they are blamed with interfering the normal work of the government and are lambasted but if they want to increase it to stop a government shutdown they are called out for wasting money. Seems like a double standard. This also directly addresses Shandrach's comment above.

I do not believe the Republicans get lambasted for wanting to increase the debt. There problem has always been what they want to add to the bills. Reporting on budget negotiations never mention they are stuck on the debt part but more on what's to be added. The Dems could say the same about themselves. Problem really is that even before trump, Biden, trump, Obama, bush, etc, the Legislators have been broken. Terribly broken where first they can't work together and then this far side group joined in and that far side group countered and you are left with even the same sides who can't get along. Now, an unelected individual is running rampant without boundaries or accountability. Maybe, when it all falls apart trump will just blame musk because he always blames someone else, but he needs to keep in mind the old saying, The Buck Stops Here.

This seems like such a dysfunctional System. When a bill comes up for a vote, what was maybe a very good bill to pass, always has some added items, that throw a monkey wrench in, and screws up the whole process.
It seems to me, there is too much Party line voting going on. This side, That side. A proper working system would be all the politicians vote
Ask not what the bill can do for your Party, But what the bill can do for your Country! Sound familiar?
Now it's obvious all the Republican Congressmen are voting strictly on the Party line. Even though they know it's wrong. Because they have been threatened, that if they don't grovel and do everything the Emperor wants, they will be thrown to the Lions! They've become a group of Spineless Jellyfish!
Now they are having to go back to their Districts, and have Town hall meetings with their constituent's, which are really angry with them, because they feel unrepresented! I saw Hired Goons drag 1 woman out for speaking her mind! At a meeting designed for the people to speak! This was in Idaho, where the Aryan nation had a Stronghold, and maybe still DOES,
It will be interesting to see, Who this new administration Stands for, The bottom 99%, or the top 1%.

Clean single bills would fix the problem but neither party wants that.

Today Trump refused to comment on whether or not the US would intervene if China makes a move to take over Taiwan. The US investments in Taiwan are said to be about $19 billion, much of it in computer chip production. With a commitment to making more of this activity to be US based then the loss of Taiwan investments might be seen as less important. Given China's commitment to incorporating Taiwan it might then be decided by the Chinese leadership that it would be better to bite the bullet before Trump's term ends. It will be interesting to see if today's remarks cause any panic with Taiwan's stock market.

I just watched on the news, a horrible meeting in The Oval Office at The White House, with Trump, J.D. Vance, and President Zelensky. It turned into a Fiasco! Both Trump and Vance started yelling and wouldn't let Zelensky speak. They accused him of not trying to negotiate with Putin, and when he explained he did try. They ignored him, and told him how he should be so thankful to the US. They were so Pompous and belittling.
When he tried to explain if The US didn't help Ukraine now, then Putin would become a threat to all of Europe and the US!
Trump exploded, saying America is going to be just fine and to hell with Ukraine,Europe, Japan, and basically everyone in the Free World! He blatantly expressed his support for Putin!

Trump has abandoned Ukraine and is abandoning the EU and as threatened before, will pull out of NATO. Ukraine will rally the EU for support and keep on fighting while draining Russia's finances. It was Russia that kept saying WWIII but now trump is repeating it. Thing is, if there is a WWIII, you can thank the persons that could have avoided it. The Putin/Trump tag team. He has pulled all aid out of Asia. He seems to be isolating the US from the world. He plans all these tarrifs and continues to tell his followers that the exporting nations pay them which is a bold faced lie. The Importers pay them. Tarrifs go to the US government while the tarrifs get incorporated into cost to manufactures and end consumers. People need to look at tarrifs as another tax the government is collecting from them. In an isolated nation, it is always the people who suffer and this will be no different.
