Hi, does anyone have information (experience or links) on trekking on Salak eg do you need to register, do you need to have a guide, can you summit and back in a day (depending on route used)? I've looked through Hobbies, Sports, Travel and Ent but don't see anything listed there.

Thanks in advance

Yes, you need to register and get permit at TNGS office. Not sure if gunung salak is open now.

I trekked Gn. salak (and. other mt. in Indonesia 30 - 40 years ago; although I can recall my experience but might not be representatively current situation. best friend to check is on youtube.

It is possible to reach the summit and back - at least what I did.

I don't think guide is mandatory. I dont know your experience trekking in Indonesia. I will recommend to have a guide. The trek is not technically difficult; but might not well maintained, could be altered by weather, lost trekker, land slide, ect.
There's some fatalities due to under estimate and poor preparation.

Good info thanks. I like to think I'm experienced on the hills and sensible, so wouldn't take risks. I've seen many tour operators advertising treks and tours but to be honest I don't want to go up in a group, just myself and a friend if possible,.
I'm checking with a tour operator to see if the Salak/Halimun is open at present and will take it further from there.
I've also been checking GPS tracked routes from Strava (sports app) which gives various options, most of them are fairly short, the longest bottom to top is approx 6.3km (although pretty steep) so is achievable in a single day.
Thanks

2 months ago I went hiking /trekking in sentul /puncak area with gang of women . We passed about 3-4 waterfalls ( curug ) included Curug Leuwi Hejo, Curug Leuwi liek, curug barong, It was lovely day , we had to cross 2 rivers to get thorough. We had 2 guides and each of us gave 100 thou. We almost had skinny dipping but we kept our pants on LOL…I love to go there again , but of course not during rainy season like now. Feel free to message me if you need some info
