Tourists Unknowingly Eating Dog

A street vendor is recorded on video selling dog meat to tourists in Kuta.

Personally, I've found dog to have quite a distinctive texture and taste which leads me to wonder how these street vendors are preparing the meat before sale so as to conceal it's strong flavour. I'm not sure lashings of sate would disguise it.

A report has found Bali food vendors are deceiving Australian tourists into buying dog meat obtained using cruel and brutal means.

An investigation led by Animals Australia (AA) revealed evidence Bali dogs are being beaten, poisoned and strangled for their meat, ABC’s 7.30 Report has revealed.


While the sale of dog meat is not illegal in Bali, consumption of poisoned meat or the cruel slaughter of animals is, AA campaign director Lyn White told the program.

"The dog-meat trade breaches animal cruelty laws and food safety laws. That is a statement of fact," she said.

Video shared by AA shows one instance of an investigator, identified by the 7.30 Report as “Luke”, asking a vendor if it is indeed dog satay he is selling.

The vendor confirms this is indeed the fact before approaching a group of Australians to make a sale, purposely concealing the fact to the buyers.

What? Dogs recognize hand signals because they are taught to by repetition with reward. Apes have been taught to communicate in two way conversations with sign language. Dogs can't use tools where apes have.

I've never eaten dog myself, but in keeping with what VanH reports, it is my understanding that the taste is very strong. My American friend married to a Micronesian always said she would order her husband to stay away from her after he ate dog, as she could smell it on his breath and it was nasty.

My nextdoor neighbours in Australia had one of those fox terrier yapping mongrels, you know the kind that bark at anything & then forget why they're barking but just keep barking anyhow.

When I worked nightshift that dog was the bane of my existence as far as trying to sleep during the day was concerned, barking at high pitch as they do, on & on & on, then finally stopping but 5 minutes later start barking again at something else, all the time with the neighbours exercising what I can only fathom as some kind of certain dog owner's selective deafness.

Now, I never saw myself eating the thing but if it was within my reach at the wrong time, God knows what I would have been capable of doing to it.

Things got so bad that when I did manage to get a few winks I'd invariably lapse into a recurring dream

When I worked at BA doing night shift, one of my mates said a young married couple had moved in next door, both went out to work but left their big dog locked up in the house, it barked all day while he was trying to sleep, he said a week later, Well that sorted that problem, what did you do we all asked, I pushed some laxitive chocolate through the letter box and they got rid of the dog after a few days, poor thing, sadly there is always an answer to most problems

Oh dear repeating myself, the chap concerned had been in the Army during the war, and some of his tales were really funny, but totally unreaptable

For any of the tourist eating dog sate and thinking it is chicken, you are stupid. No way you could confuse the two unless you're used to eating very old rooster road kill. Color, taste, and texture are all quite different. Even kambing would taste different and have a different texture.

Bali push to end dog-meat trade.

Representatives of Bali's Veterinary Health Office, the Ministry for Agriculture, and the Balinese Tourism Board drafted recommendations to end the trade.

The recommendations included law enforcement to prevent the sale of dog meat, and an emphasis on educating the public about the trade and its potential for spreading diseases such as rabies.

You can't get rabies from eating dog meat. Especially if cooked.
