Today's menu:

In the Missus jungle village for a week, 50 km south of Banyuwangi.
Spend some time yesterday on arrival to put my open air mini kitchen back in service.
I noted that the original electric system has been upgraded to local standards..🙄🙄

Basic cooking here, but mind you, I brought enough to survive one week without depending on the local "gastronomy"....

The rest of the day will be cleaning and re-arranging the "man's cave". My personnal area, adjacent to the Missus house but off limit for everybody (except the Miss).

Looks like a well set up kitchen! Sorry if this is personal, please don't answer if this question is offensive! Why are you not allowed in the Parents home? You live with your Misses, at your own home? Maybe it's a blessing in disguise to have the Man Cave! 👍

You don't understand.
1) There are no parents anymore
2) The main house belongs 100% to the Miss since ages. In there lives her son and grandson. House has 3 b/r. I have full access. My bedroom, where I sleep, is in the main house.
3) BUT...I like my private space without some family member or neighbour dropping in all day like at a Mc Drive, so I have build my man's cave, adjacent and connected to the main house so I can watch Y.T., cook or read in peace.
3) The mini kitchen is part of the man's cave but open on the same inner court as the Missus main kitchen.

Yeah, not the traditionnal "I love you" story, but suits us fine.
And oh, the water from the well is bloody cold to shower at 04:30 am.... I'll need a few days to get used to it again ! This morning the Miss was nice enough to have boiled some hot water even before I was up.
And 2nd Oh.... the morning prayer is bloody early ! Will need to get used to that as well !

Thanks for the update! I think like you, but just didn't realize it, because I live like this all the time. Why don't you buy one of those Instant propane hot water heaters? They work very well if you have good water pressure! A long time ago, we had an antique ceramic covered Bathtub. We put it a place, where we could build a fire under it, Just remember, you have to have water in it before you start the fire, or you will make the ceramic crack! that was nice having that much hot water. The problem was, we had to make a flat wooden seat to sit on the inside, to keep from burning your bottom! Luckily I live far from a Mosque now! Enjoy your stay! 👍🙏

There are also ways of utilizing the heat from the sun. I've seen boxes built that look similar to solar panels out of wood or aluminum, then painted black inside, with a clear glass on top. Then a series of copper pipes are run up and down to cover the entire box, with an entrance pipe with cold water coming in at the bottom, and an exit pipe with the hot water exiting the top. This is run to a holding tank, as big as you need. There are emergency valves added in case of blockage somewhere.
All this information is available on line for sure.

I already thought about it.
But considering I am here only for a week 3 or 4 times a year, it's not worth it.
I'll build it, and when I return it will be "broken"...

Typical French breakfast, even in the jungle...

This evening there is some Hindu prayer ceremony in the Missus house, about 30 people, and since 03:00 am it's all hands on deck to prepare food for them.

Of course at 03:10 they noticed the gas tank was empty....and came gently ask me if they could borrow mine....😅😅😅

The salmon farming company in Tasmania, Australia that had dumped 5,500 tons of dead salmon has been found to be pushing ahead with using 815 kilos of florfenicol off-label from a product labelled "USE ONLY in pigs for the treatment of respiratory infections", with the active ingredient to be mixed with fish feed. They gave the regulatory authority just on week's notice of its intention.

Paella night at our regular French place.
Nice evening, the pensioners gang members were all present, 10 around the table, the Miss only woman but she liked the paella and being part of "the family".
