Hello everyone!
I hope it's okay if I post this here.
This survey is part of a master thesis that deals with expatriate support in multinational companies. The purpose of this survey is to collect your experiences as a former expatriate in order to optimize the support systems for expatriates.
I would be very grateful if you could take 2 minutes of your time and participate in the survey.

Thank you very much!

But I / we are not former expats

We are still expats. That's why we live here

I just checked the questionnaire. All about whether the company supports your stay in foreign country or not. No questions about what the government of the host country can do to support your stay in foreign country.

Yeh I got halfway and gave up, all about as you said if my company gave me lessons etc etc
Pretty vague not sure the intent or how the results can or will help Indonesian Govt or if its just a deepdive for info and data

Could you please give some more background for this survey?

Who do you represent? A private organisation? The government? Please provide specific details. It would certainly help you getting those answers. As you can see, we are all a bit confused.

For your information, this forum has a rather varied membership:
  • Long time foreigners who moved here for family reasons (married with a local for instance)
  • Foreigners who arrived here on a work assignment. Some are here temporarily, others decided to make this place their home.
  • Indonesians who live here
  • Indonesians who lived abroad and now are back
  • Indonesians who live half abroad and half here
  • And more, I'm sure

As far as I know, we have few former expatriates who used to live here and now have moved elsewhere but still use this forum.

You might have better luck looking on Linkedin for foreigners who worked in Indonesia at some point and are now working elsewhere.

During my professional career I worked in quite some countries, also with expat packages and perks.

But I fail to see how it would be relevant or useful to know how a biotech company In California for instance, deals with getting their staff in different positions. Don’t forget it is often a part of a professional growth, you can’t just send someone back without a career path. Some questions about how a company supports them with training etc. don’t cut it.

To know how multinationals deal with expats it might be a better idea to contact and interview their HR departments.

Hey, it already written there, I do this for educational purpose. I am writing my master thesis right now and I would like to collect some information about the support every former expat has gotten.
But thank you for your information.

The amount of these things I've done for people doing a master's thesis etc I feel I've earnt my own Masters now

In my day we sat our own exams and did our own coursework

Now you just post a link and let others do it for you

Some suggestions to improve the questionnaire.
See attachment ... this question about reintegration difficulties upon return, should also be asked when the expat is working and living overseas. And on top of that before going abroad. So, one can compare these situations. Furthermore some explanations should be added, becuase what is the difference between "reintegration into the private and social environment" and "socio-cultural reintegration". Also what is the meaning of "loss of status in home country"? Sounds like projections of 'gengsi' in Indonesia onto other countries.

Also, as I know from other researches, expats have a hard time making friends in the host countries. So most of them stick together and form expat clubs. Also, expats are very much needed in some countries because of their knowledge and experience. That is why those governments have special tax rates for expats. Indonesia has a tax policy for expats, but it would be nice to know if this policy is really beneficial for the expats and the government.
