I was just reading some of "The Cage" posts. There were some discussions about socks. Reminded me of an experience I had when I first arrived here in 1974:

I came over on a 2-year contract so brought all the clothes I owned at the time which was not much. I wore boots all the time so never worried about having "pairs" of socks. I just had a bunch of socks with maybe 3 pairs out of the lot. Since they did not show, I never worried whether or not they matched.

Well, After a few days in the company guest house, the maid got hold of my pile of laundry and went to work on it. When she returned it to me, I only had 6 socks...those 3 pairs. I asked where the other ones were and she said they were no good, not a pair amongst them so she got rid of them.

Couple of the guys reckoned she used them for her periods!!

So I had to go out and buy some more socks!

I like to wear socks with my sandals which I’m told is really not the thing to do, but unlike Corbyn I definitely don’t have them pulled up to my knees also I don’t have a hankie in my head when I go out in the sun

I wear them almost all the time, with my boots when I go out.
I rarely wear sandals & don't wear socks with them if I do.
As for buying socks here that don't cut my circulation off at the ankles- I buy from M&S, or from the UK.
Hubby is my sock thief. However I have just about every pair I ever brought here from years back & only one odd one.
No idea what happened to the other.
Nobody in my house has periods (debatable when hubby gets moody though) & no fancy front loader washing machine. Maybe that's why I still have them?

I'm kampung - never wear socks when I am not at work. However this has its drawbacks when you take off your trainers or baseball boots :yuck::yuck:

:peace:
i only wear socks with my trainers when i ride my bike. i only wear flip flops (not the ones with the bit between you toes, I hate that) when we go out. The rest of the time I'm barefoot

I bought maybe 4 pairs of socks with me when I moved here since I don't have a job I've worn them maybe twice since I've been here (to imagation ). I bought some deck shoes for fancy events lol. Half of my socks have turned into cat toys.

Funny i was just thinking about socks this morning as all mine seem to have holes in them. I was going to get some nice ones for Christmas from Amazon but then remembered that socks i have bought in USA all seem to be really long - all the way to the just short of the knee rather than just a bit above the ankle in the UK. Is this normal?

I wish i didn't have to wear socks but seems between work, gym, golfing, etc i often go through 2 pairs a day.

All thiner socks that I took with me from UK are all worn out, thrown out, lost in the laundry. Thicker are still fine used mostly by my wife on "cold" nights, I have also several thick wool socks - used only when one of us is sick or when traveling to colder climate countries.
I prefer to buy socks while traveling. In Indonesia they are a bit pricey vs quality.
