That is the whole point. Some people get obsessed over health warnings that lack a broad scientific consensus, like the risks of alcohol in post #1 or processed meat, while completely ignoring the things experts do universally agree are harmful. The funny things here is that millions of people keep drinking and eating such food/drink for more than a century yet. there is no evidence the difference in life expectancy with those who do not.Let's take indonesia as an example since there are many developing countries. Are you now comparing the life expectancy of a European who eats sausages to the life expectancy of someone who lives in a country where:
- 65% adult men smoke
- tuberculosis and hepatitis B are widespread, as are typhoid fever and other diseases
- 95% of adults do not meet standard guidelines for regular exercise
- medical facilities are sub par
- etc.?
Due to a small group of scientists publish their finding such as in post #1, they stop drinking but the it is weird that they still continue their guilty pleasure to consume sugary drinks, eating chocolates, cakes, ice cream containing a lot of sugar which have been a consensus among scientists / experts that they are bad for your health.
You might not smoke, but in the country you mentioned, you are still actively inhaling secondhand smoke. You buy veggies, fruits instead of growing your own, and you choose to drive or take public transit instead of walking, even though you know walking is healthier. Regardless of a perfect diet, listen to all of the health warning which have not been a consensus, you are still exposed to widespread communicable diseases like tuberculosis, hepatitis B, and typhoid from the environment around you. And do not forget stop eating 'Bakso' as you might get cat/dog meat, stop buying seafood / fish, as you will never know they have been plunged in the formalin.
Keep in mind people have the full control / option these actual, proven risks, such as growing their own food, cooking their own meals, choose where they want to live, choose not to eat artisans meat, cold cut, but some people they choose not to.
Human nature shows that unless a threat has an absolute, undeniable scientific consensus, like the universal knowledge that poison will kill you many people will just ignore the warnings like the post in this thread. The article in post #1 only represents a small group of researchers, not a global medical consensus. You will never know in a few years other scientists will invalidate that findings. Ultimately, life is meant to be enjoyed rather than spent stressing over unproven health warnings.
Keep in mind Pyrrhonian Scepticism, Sextus Empiricus & Epicureanism, are valid way of thinking that have been adopted by people for centuries
