Personally, I'm very happy with the trophy system.

As a member, I don't care for it. As an administrator, I love it. It's been proven that it increases engagement across the board (meaning that some people ignore it but some people enjoy it) and if it means more engagement, more traffic and more members on Expat Indo, even by a small margin, I'm all for it.

The feature is not exactly in your face, so it can be completely ignored.

I still appreciate the feedback and input on this.

Seems like everything online these days is about marketing; why should a reputation system be different? As with the old forum, I will also ignore this incarnation of the brass ring.

That's the thing, XF completely ditched the reputation system.

The closest thing we can get is an extra plugin that enhances the like system (by including a dislike option among others) which I think is a nice compromise.

No more than a snarky negative reputation comment from a high rep member that throws you in the red simply because of a difference of opinion.

The beauty of that extension is that it would let us chose what kind of reaction is available. It could be a combination of like, dislike, disagree, love it, hate it, give me a break, ain't nobody got time for that, etc. It's completely customizable.

My goodness, the "ignore" option is certainly the most appealing, for snaky old me, anyway. Without the time and willingness to invest effort to explain a difference or an agreement on a subject, best to keep silent. As an alternative, clicking on a one word expression doesn't seem to contribute much to the discussion. As I have said before, I prefer to answer speech with which I disagree (and agree) with speech of my own; answer opinion with opinion. I try to focus on what is said, without characterize who is speaking. Not easy to do all the time.

Actually, the statistics on this show that it increases engagement and does not negatively impact number of posts.

This gives lurkers an opportunity to participate other than posting.

Those who were participating in the first place will continue to do so.

So I've installed the Post Rating plug-in in the test forum.

You can now add ratings to each post other than "Like". The options we have at the moment are temporary. They're just the default ones that we haven't tweaked yet.

You can see the type of rating each user has received under their avatar.

All ratings are public.

It better not! EG gave me negative ratings!!

PS: No they won't transfer after the wipe. EG managed to import the positive ratings from the vBulletin forum though, so that's why we have green bars.

You may have noticed that sometimes the post ratings are not available. It's not a bug, it is as designed.

The ratings are sorted by categories: Positive (+1 positive rating), Negative (+1 negative rating) and Neutral (+1 neutral rating)

All ratings are available in all forums except The Cage and the classifieds forums where only positive ratings are allowed.
