Totally different conversation but I have stopped recommending La Favela to anyone who asks, although I agree the interior design is well done it is one of the most racists places in Bali, with very, very frequent reports of locals being denied entry simply because they're local.

Did anybody ever do a price comparison between Sanur and Seminyak?

Btw, if you want peace and quiet, even in Jimbaran and Nusa Dua you will find some pockets that meet those criteria. In Ubud I would not enjoy myself; there's besides the local regulations also the busloads of tourists and constant stream of back packers coming by....

But even Flores gets busy. And it's not cheap. So going east is also less and less of an option.

Hi macvert ya there is no perfect place. But eg overall I like the feel of Sanur. It feels more laid back but not always quiet. It sounds like you have been living in Bali for a while now so I am sure you have lots of experience. When we move we will find somewhere that suits us. I am sure it won't be a large villa but something like a 3 bedroom 2 bath. The spare bedrooms will be the "guest houses"...hahaha. But I am aware every so called "paradise" also has downsides and people have different preferences and budgets.

What kind of price range for a decent house in Sanur area? Just a basic house new, or fairly new, 3 bedroom 2 bath or there abouts and preferably no pool. I have looked at some prices online. And what kind of bargains are there?

After living 8 months in Sanur, I am happy with my choice. Relaxed, laid back, peacefull slow way of life, no traffic jam...And yet it has plenty eateries of all style, a few places to have a beer while listening to a band, and a nice beachwalk.
Perfect for retirement after 8 years of HKG madness !
And my companion,.from Java, appreciates the place a lot also.
Always difficult to mention prices as it can vary a lot.. There is sure is big difference depending on being on the "seaside" or on the "land" side of the Bypass.

I am glad you are enjoying Sanur. It sounds nice and relaxing. We are actually more interested away from the sea side but still close enough to easily drive to the beach walk. I am sure we can get some local help when we are ready but I am just looking at prices and of course we will look for a deal when the time comes.

Maybe check out Renon which is within fairly easy driving distance to Sanur,

One bit of advice I would give is to try to stay away from any place that has Balinese temples or those small yellow offering boxes inside the property boundary because despite what the owner may say to you before you sign a lease, there is a high probability that he & sometimes his wife, the kids & the dog will all be on your doorstep without notice doing their full moon ceremony once a month & then leave you to clean up after them.

Then there are all the other reasons to have ceremonies like before Galungan when the whole extended family may turn up, stay for hours & leave the place looking like bomb hit it, sacrificed chickens & all !!!....... In my experience, when it comes to performing their apparent ceremonial duties the Balinese have little concept of privacy as we know it, I say apparent ceremonial duties because occasionally they won't turn up at all & you are just left guessing.

Thanks macvert. Hahaha .........I am sure that is good advice. My wife was reading about this on a blog. We will be looking at buying something in the future. It may be 2 years away but just currently thinking/looking. And thanks for the reply.
