I decided to make my own cheese cakes as of now, it’s just not good enough, too sweet and too expensive in the CB&TL or Haagen Dasz or so.

All ingredients are sourced via Tokopedia. Esp, the blueberry jam is nice; not so sweet. I also use Stevia.

About my own native food: luckily the supply of kale has really taken off; rather easy to find now. The Brussels Sprouts I buy in a Glodok market. The pork sausage is produced in BALI.

jstar, is the potato dish in the top photo colcannon? Whatever it is, it looks delicious. One of my all-time favorite foods is kale and potatoes cooked together.

I love Brussel sprouts too.

Thanks Puspa, now I finally know how it is called in English....

It tastes even better if you mix in some grated cheese and bacon cubes after you mashed it.

It's an Irish dish very popular spuds bacon and sprouts or cabbage

Gosh like Puspa, I simply love Brussel sprouts, sadly Glodok is a long way off, I did see some at Kemkicks once, with Parsnip, my other favourite vegy but very expensive

Crazy, right? One stem of leek. So I tend to use spring onions instead but it's not exactly the same.

When they had no kale yet in the supermarkets, I tried Papaya leaf but you need to squeeze the bitterness out.

Leek pie is very nice, that’s what I miss here, my garden in England, leeks, beetroot, parsnip, Brussel sprouts and new potatoes,
We do get papaya leaves, cassava leaves and chili’s, that’s it
Just to add my wife thinks sprouts are little cabbages

I also love Brussels Sprouts and my wife gets them from Food Hall in Jakarta and Grand Lucky, Pepito and Papaya in Bali.

jstar, my wife buys leeks at the local market & says you can get them at local markets everywhere. Although nothing near the size of the one you have shown, they are maybe 20mm in diameter at an absolute maximum & rp1000 each.

Cool. Seems it's bought at All Fresh or so? Over here they don't have it...

Something which -compared to Europe- is rather easy to find here in the (super)market, is Talas / Taro.

And that makes that I can prepare my favorite dish from Suriname: Pom. It was originally a Jewish dish. It is one one these (grandma) dishes that nobody makes the same. I use some rum in the pomtyre mix, as well as condensed canned tomato purée.

If you're interested, the Talas is not premashed in plastic bags of course; but it is easy to prepare if you nuke the hell out of the roots in the microwave. And then mash it (with a fork or so). If you steam it and blend afterwards, the blender will blow up (bye Kitchenaid, thanks sayang!). The problem might be to source the piccalilli here (Indian supermarket?), I take it with me from Europe.

I love taro - will have to try that recipe.

(Just watched the start of the video). Wait - what do you do about the pomtayer? Do you use mashed taro instead for that? (Should be better with fresh taro instead of powdered anyway.)

Yes, in Holland they buy it from the Suriname Toko in plastic. Over here you buy the roots of course. That's why I mentioned the microwaving.

I prefer this recipe btw. But it's in (semi) Dutch. It gives much stronger flavors:

Instead of lemon juice I use fresh orange juice. And much less sugar...
