I know there are a couple of gamers around here. So come on, tell me!
It's been out on PS4 for a couple days. I'm eagerly waiting for its release on PC tonight, I've been waiting for 3 years afterall. Needless to say, don't expect anything from me on the forum this whole week end!
For those who don't know, No Man's Sky is video game for Play Station 4 and PC that is very unique: it's a space exploration game where you can travel from planet to planet. You start on the edge of the Universe and the goal is to make it to the center where a surprise awaits. But what is most notable is:
- The scale: over 18 quintillion planets and they can all be visited.
- Not a single planet is the same. They all have different environments, fauna (if any), flora (if any), weather, resources, etc.
- The whole universe (plants, animals, planets, systems) are procedurally generated. It means that at the base of the game there is this huge equation that creates the whole universe, everything that populates the game. As you move around the universe, it is generated before you. And it is the same for all players, meaning that if 2 players go to the same coordinates in that universe, they will see the same thing.
- It's an indie game! The team is very small, it's not a big studio and the leader is a charming, relatable geek who never thought he could pull this off. And yet, here it is.
Here's the trailer below:
