What a fuck tard this Sandiaga is getting to be. Just who does he think he is? I thought he was elected deputy Governor, not Governor. He has been out every day lately saying how he is going to do this or that and no words from the actual governor elect. He had the radicals behind his campaign and said Jakarta was good for Sharia Law, then he backed off right before the election and said Jakarta would not be a good place for Sharia, now, a Sharia Tourist area. So, what happens if you are caught in that zone without your hijab? You get a public canning to entertain the tourist? Jakarta and no part of it is Ache. He can't just incorporate Sharia Laws. Of course, if the Central Government allows them to put in regional laws that say so, the whole country should be attacked and wiped off the face of the earth. Another reason I will never visit Jakarta again unless it is to exit Indonesia and there are other places to leave from besides Jakarta.

Deputy governor-elect Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said on Tuesday that he planned to establish a sharia tourism zone in Kwitang, Senen, Central Jakarta.

Islamic red light zone where Arab visitors can get hooked up with a temporary "spouse." Could work, especially since the traffic to the Puncak tourist areas is so bad these days.

Based on the article, it is not nearly as bad as I had feared... It sounds like the "sharia zone" will encompass a few blocks rather than all of DKI Jakarta.

Must be quite difficult for them to hook up then, it must be quite difficult for them to go all that way too, I expect the pros will be over the moon here in Jakarta that they can become spouses

If it's only for a few blocks what is the point, most Arabs want places like Bangkok, they don't go for sharia, they've had enough of that in Riyadh

Then it grows. I think that can be read into the plans pretty easily. Is this some of the payback to the radical criminals that helped them get elected? I do think so. Perhaps Rizieq will get protection within this new area.

What he means is a lite pilgrimage area, like many burial sites of supposed saints.

Another nail in jakartas coffin, sounds like another wonderful idea !

Yeah, sure. Then why does it need to be Sharia?
While Sharia has a negative connotation in the west, it sounds neutral or positive for Muslims. Just like Halacha is for Jewish people. He uses it precisely for political reasons, it may sound like he's applying Sharia in Jakarta (pandering to hard liners), while in reality he simply designates a religious tourism area that invites people to come and spend money.

Then he should have just used Islamic Tourist Area. he did not and I think there is much more behind his actions then is being let on. You take it however you want but I doubt there is anything neutral about it.

I actually said he is pandering to Islamic hard liners by choosing the word syariah, but in this instance it's an empty word. He has no power to set up / enforce sharia, even in a small neighborhood. This isn't Aceh, if he starts caning ladies without a jilbab, he's gonna have real trouble.

The challenge/problem of pandering to hardliners like this is that they will start caning ladies etc because they feel they have been given a green light.

I actually dare them to try. Public opinion will shift against them so quickly their heads will spin. The only reason Ahok lost was a lot of Muslims felt genuinely offended by his words about the Qur'an, it's a matter of pride rather than piety. Even then he didn't lose by much.

For a red light zone it needs to be a non-islamic country like Thailand, say Sukhumvit Soi 3, Oops it's there already sort of. Arabs on holiday like a drink so Sharia zone no good. Unless they claim "Honey I'm only going to the Sharia zone"!

A for temporary spouse? Don't they do that already? Get married for 3 weeks , knock the girl up and leave.

Isn't that what the federal gov't designated for Lombok...how successful is that?
I recall Emaar Co. of Dubai were given a contract to develop Lombok for religious tourism and the Indonesian Gov't built an International airport in the middle of nowhere to accommodate the development. Emaar failed in its obligation. A Chinese Co. wished to develop but the Muslims in Lombok would have no-one but an Arab/Muslim developer....so far no building whatsoever.

Seems like Jakarta will make the same mistakes.

I don't think Uno has a real plan with money. My guess is that he's not gonna go far beyond labeling the neighborhood a Sharia Tourism destination.

Well, ok, he might spend some money for a proyek where they put a fresh coat of paint here and there, paying 4x the going rate for labor and material, which would be pocketed by groups of his hardline supporters.

If Ahok was still there the budget would be transparent...what hope now?

It will make Jakarta backward with this 2 new guys on the helm. They will tweak what Ahok have done by insignificent result and call their own that for sure.
