Hi Everyone!

I've been working on building a park in Cikokol, Tangerang for about a year now. It's due to open on the 20th of August.

Taman Gajah Tunggal is a park that has been constructed by PT Gajah Tunggal Tbk as a public space for everyone to enjoy. Since Gajah Tunggal is a large tire company, many parts in the park have been created by using scrap materials. Most of the wood has been sourced from old shipping boxes, some steel comes from a large steel scrap pile at the factory, and tires used are all sourced from scrap.

Personally, I think it's one of the better parks in Jabodetabek, but I might be biased. It's functional and for everyone. I hope it also brings awareness to the Cisadane which is often flowing with garbage. I hope to someday work on a project to remove at least the water surface trash.

What have I personally done? I've designed much of the playground components, some benches, and also I helped pave the way for the production of benches that are a bit unorthodox. I even built a few prototype benches to help the process of understanding how to work with the tires and incorporate them into the design without overly increasing the workload.

Since my interests are all over the place, I've put the 3d model of the park into a game engine to see how it would work. It's got some things not right with it but it's still worth sharing. Have a look!

Very nice, definitely a great shortage of parks and play areas, so this should be a nice addition, I congratulate Gajah Tunggal, be nice if other companies followed suit rather than building massive complexs

I agree there is a shortage of parks and recreation areas in Jakotabek but have noticed, on the way to the airport, that some communities in disrepair are now cleaned-up, foliage and trees planted and pathways constructed. Then my wife told me this was created by the Ahok ministry...and now he's out of office.

This is very cool. As others have noted, public spaces are very sparse in Indonesia. I really like the video, and am considering using this for my projects also.

Do you have any pictures of the completed project? I would love to write a short article for the main site about this.

As it's the national day today it reminds me we had a huge plot of land opposite our house, it had a full sized football pitch where the local team played, plus the kids, on occasions the local schools had games and on the 17th we had a parade and games afterwards, now sold, its a it's a crowded complex, so today the kids are having their games and party in our street as there are no play areas, the complex opposite that was also a play area for kids and at the bottom of the hill fish ponds where you could fish, now all filled in and small houses built, every time it rains the little houses flood, that's progress.

Nice work, I can see putting up solar panels with batteries on the canopies so people can charge their phones/tablets while sitting on the bench.

Is there any possibility to put more trees?
Hah. Well, at the park there's quite a few trees. In the Unity game engine you can place in trees and shrubberies and all that good stuff as well...its really not difficult.

It's actually amazing how large Gajah Tunggal actually is. One of the big bosses (ok maybe more than just one of them) is very much sensitive to what's going on in the world and she seems to always be trying to help society out in different ways. I'm not sure if this park is one of those things, but i think it's close to their core values.

The tire company's factory already has a workshop that uses their scrap wood to make furniture to support factory operations. Benches, tables, bedframes, cupboards, dressers...it's amazing to watch these guys go to town on that scrap wood. I swear, some of the scrap they get looks like a big tree cut into long cube shapes.

It really does look great, Ben, I expect the kids and families will have a great time, really need more though, Jakarta and Tangerang must be the largest cities without parks, definitely need more

Here's some more photos I've been meaning to upload. Previous ones were before some things were painted and before the park opened i think.
