Dangerous sh*t to watch out for ... feel free to add your own contenders.

I decided to make lists & today's lists are :
Oooh that's not happened before
&
Dangerous shit to watch out for .

There is one contender hitting both lists & it is only 6:23 in the morning.
Taking a shower.
I have one of those rainfall(?) showers in my Jkt digs...
& I have quite high water pressure, considering I am up on the 4th floor. So there I am all lathered up (I know, I know- almost soft porn- calm down boys)
& the fkn shower explodes on me- or it felt like it- no injuries, but the water pressure blew the shower head off, and considering it is the size of a metal dinner plate I am lucky it didn't do serious damage.

Considering avoiding showers from now on, you have been warned

...and I thought you were in Bandung, with low water pressure

Nope, I get about a bit Lol.

& we usually have good pressure at the house- unless the pump breaks down :)

Now this was a first. Someone drove me almost off the road while walking a dog. I had to jump. Often they slow down and even lower the window to make pictures or so.

It was close to his house so when I obtained redress, an old guy came out and did not apologize but stated it was forbidden to walk a dog on the street ‘here’.

When I pointed out that it was a public road and challenged him to show me the law and even join me to the SatPam or police station, I even said I insisted, he backed down and went inside.

When I spoke to a security guy a bit later about it, he said “Ah that guy, he is weird. He used to be a Pak RT.” Hmm.

What is not new of course, is the tendency to turn down the blame automatically by using perceived/made up rules.

I have walked day and night in many corners of this country over 10 years. I would estimate that 98% of the time vehicles give me enough space. Recently I might admit that cars (and bikes) are getting closer however. I'm talking 10 cm. I have been knocked down in my own country and it is not a pretty experience. I wear light-coloured clothes and in addition at night a reflector strip. Not much more one can do. It is amazing that even in dark out of the way lanes, I hear "Misterr", from the shadows.

If I am walking ( it used to be jogging ) in a laneway or narrow street with no footpath I aways walks on the right hand side so that I am facing the oncoming traffic and can take evasive action if necessary. If you walk on the left side and a car is coming from behind and another car is approaching on the right you cannot see the car behind you if it has moved further to the left to avoid the oncoming car.

That seems to be a concept that is extremely difficult to grasp for some people here.

That's one of the first things I learned as a kid: walk facing the traffic.

Yeh but here the traffic also on the wrong side of the road anyway

Au contraire! Here they drive on the correct side, most of the time! But yes I was also told as a child to walk facing the traffic. I was also told to wait for the school bus to leave before attempting to cross the road.

what i meant was how often do you see cars bikes etc on the wrong side of the road on purpose - case in point the casablanca flyover when all the bikes use the wrong road to try and avoid the police trap at the end near cityloft

My personal safety with respect to this issue was actually threatened in Cairo, but I'm sure it happens in Indonesia too: firecracker misuse. I was walking down the street and some kid on a 2nd-floor balcony decided it would be hilarious to throw a firecracker down to the street below where I was walking. Whether he was aiming for me or just aimlessly playing I can't say, but having a firecracker explode inches in front of me was not fun.

I know what you mean Puspa, and it can be frightening, but usually done by children with their stupid parents also thinking it amusing.
I've suffered the same in Hong Kong during Chinese New year for years and wondered when some regulation should be put into place.
We usually have a party in our apartment in Jakarta (18th floor) at New Year and it is wonderful to see the millions of kampung people enjoying their New Year with crackers and the like..... but I regret reading next day how many children end up in hospital with serious injuries caused by parental malfeasance.

Not sure what it is like now buy in days of yore one of dad's jobs/pleasures in the UK was to teach small children about fireworks on Bonfire Night.
