Kitas

Your area of work / sponsorship etc is supposed to be where you are legally resident or something. That "area". Also you gonna have to do all your immigration things in that same bali office even if you are living in Jakarta
And yes as mentioned immigration come and visit and check if you really live where you said.
They don't tell you. They just come and ask the ojek outside or the lobby reception what time you leave every day, wearing a suit, etc etc.
So you need to be here totally legally by the book all the correct docs especially if you plan to get an investor kitas by the not so correct way.

Be a shame to get deported and also lose your money

Turns out there is a possibility that I may not owe any Capital Gains taxes to the Aussie Govt
Would be a pleasant surprise, if its turns out this way.
Seems there is a rule which says if I am non-resident for tax purpose then I am only liable for taxable Aussie property and Crypto doesn't fall into that category (How awesome is that!!)
If this is indeed the case then I might just stay on Social Visa, given all the things I learned about from your responses so far.
Again cant thank you guys enough for all your responses :)

But then you going to make a bigger problem for youself one day

You cannot be non resident everywhere?
Surely at one stage in your life you will have to be resident "somewhere"
These things can catch you up - what if you ever return to Oz one day and they say Gooday mate, where you been for last 15 years?

If you have the money (and we are only talking a few thousand us$) why not get a proper legal kitas here with tax number, imta, etc and be legally resident here

At the very least you are then here 100% legally, no issues with immigration etc, you can earn money, open a bank account, buy a car, rent a property, get a credit card, pay some small amount of tax etc

So many pro's and not many cons
For a start even with Covid, you can get vaccinated, and if you have to fly, you can enter again legally because you have a kitas - imagine being stuck in KL for a year because you are not allowed back into Indonesia

And actually a kitas is not going to cost you much more than a B211 sosbud, with the twice a year fee and 1.5jt extensions or whatever it is plus flights (before corona)

Anyway up to you

At the moment if you are here on a sort of but not really type situation, you always will be looking over your shoulder

I have been thinking on these lines as well. I think you are right. Its good to have the option to fly out and back in. Has been while since i have seen my family. In case I have file for taxes here then the Kitas leaves me an option as a backup.
The yearly Kitas seems like the best option at this point (costing about $2500) with the investor visa (36 mill ) closely behind (albeit with some risk as mentioned in the one of the posts above but cheaper since its for 2 years). Decisions!!!

Now due to The Lockdown Rules " from What i know your Social Visa Can only be Extended so many times Before you Either need to Leave or Convert it & it Also Depends on Which type of Social visa it is " The Old Fly out every month or 60 days & Fly back in is being Blocked Especially for Tourists ie no Wife in Indonesia: if you want to talk Privately i can help guide you how to get around Having to use an Agent

Sorry that is wrong. I know several people here on a B211 who have had it extended multiple times since 2020.
The only change now is it is 30days + 4x30 days extension instead of 60 + 4x30

When it expires you apply a new one inside Jakarta and the process starts again

For a new member and 2nd post you should only post facts when it comes to legal issues

Hi are you Married to Indonesian? You need to be Careful as Many are currently being Scammed by so called legit Agents & then finding out all their paperwork is Fake ' Especially when they go to Immigration office , plus even though you file taxes here your Still likely to have to Pay in the Country your income is Actually Derived & or in your Home Country

Welcome to the forum newbie
Nice first post
Bitter much?

Hi unfortunately not all agents are honest & there are actually many cases of foreigners/ partners in other groups chat that used an agent then when they went to immigration they find out their papers are not legit

Hi Sharethelove, thanks for adjusting the capitals! I think the general point here is that foreign spouses of Indonesians have no need to use an agent for a KITAP. The process is actually pretty easy and there is no need or even no role for an agent.

If you do want to use an agent, you should still be reviewing all the paperwork before it is submitted. You should also know what papers you expect to receive on completion of the job. Due diligence.

Hi, I won't comment on the legal issues but I will refer you to an agent I have used for 4 years who happens to have offices in Jakarta and Bali. Ignore the name, they work mostly as property managers but they have a good legal office and the fees are reasonable. They are trustworthly and I am sure many here have contacted them and/or worked with them before. www.letsmoveindonesia.com
but whatever you decide to do I agree be sure to keep it legal, don't risk trying to fly below the radar.
My wife right now had to head home as her mother was severly ill, now she is stuck in Europe for 5 weeks waiting to get vaccinated to return to Indonesia.

I checked out the website....I think they're pretty much the only website/agent so far that actually included prices in their offering! (granted they say 'starts from..')

they are pretty good and transparent. I would personally recommend them to anyone. My company however this year went with another company more expensive, not sure why..

These are short term capital gains from trading etc. I was doing these trades while on Indonesian soil (>183 days stay during the tax year). The complication is I don't have the tax file# here (social visa). I will try to find a way here but if that doesn't work or is too complicated then I'll have to file from my home base country.
Hi is the broker your using based in your home country & what residential address did you use for verification of ID etc when register with that broker.

Where you are physically located when trading
is totally different than your broker location & your registration address with the broker.

If you used an outside Indonesia address then thats the country taxes are due.

Looking at the retirement KITAS prices, it seems C19 has made them gone up a lot ?
Paid 9 M for mine 4 years ago, and same for the 3 extensions after that.

Wonder what their price is for transformation of KITAS to KITAP (retirement) ?

I am aware that Jakarta is more expensive than Bali.

My guess that they might ask for about 30-40 mill, since they think they can only rob you once every five years instead of every year)...same with my KITAP, I was quoted fifty..(yep..fifty) million for my ex-wni KITAP (KTP OA and MERP included). I said screw it so i did it myself and cost me about 7.5 million. That was 10 years ago though, prices have come down quite a bit..for extension I was quoted 30 mill. (formal fee about 10). If you give them a call and got a price way under 30 I'd say it's pretty decent price.

Yep, but for a retirement KITAS / KITAP you have no choice. Going through a government approved agent is mandatory, as they are the one acting as your "sponsor".
And yep, the agent I use since the beginning announces 37,5 M.

Starting the process in 2 or 3 weeks, my actual (4th) Kitas expiring early December.

I thought you're married to a local
