KITAP - How long can you be away from Indonesia to keep your Kitap Valid ?

Hi Guys,

I am renewing my Kitap soon , complete with the 2 year MERP

...., and intend to do some heavy 'round the world' continuous travelling once my Kitap + Merp renewals are complete.



Question ; So does this mean I can be away from Indonesia for 'up to' 2 CONTINUOUS YEARS , and free to travel ....,
ie; while sticking within the MERP's 2 year validity time frame > in order to legally retain my Kitap status as active / valid.


example ;

Renew my Kitap + Merp >>> Then leave to go travelling overseas ..., BUT ..,

1 - return to Indonesia before the 2 year Merp expires ...,
2 - then renew the 2 year Merp again in Indonesia for another 2 year period ...,
3 - then exit Indonesia once again to resume overseas travel > but return again to Indonesia before that renewed 2 year Merp expires - etc


Question ; Is this how it works .., or are there other rules involved ?



Note ; I want to be away travelling around the world or a few years - ie; travel overland on a motorcycle .

.., and at the end of my world travels - (whenever that maybe, and dependant on my Kitap requirements)

1 - I do intend to live back in Indonesia permanently.

2 - I do NOT want to jeopardise my Kitap visa,


Question ; ..., I just want to find out how I can legally 'maximise' my time abroad as a Kitap holder - without - risking or losing my Kitap for any reason.

I think for KITAP holders you have to be in Indonesia one day a year, regardless of MERP. I will try to find the relevant statute when I am infront of my computer.

Pasal 62
(1) Izin Tinggal Tetap dapat berakhir karena pemegang Izin Tinggal Tetap:
a. meninggalkan Wilayah Indonesia lebih dari 1 (satu) tahun atau tidak bermaksud masuk lagi ke Wilayah Indonesia;

KITAP expires upon the holder leaving Indonesia for more than 1 year, or leaving without the intent to return.
