I did find another forum though where Mas Fred (I remember him from ages ago) is a regular poster. He made a very useful post combining loads of good advice for newbies to this country.

I have no idea why he isn't on here

My recollection, which may be a tad faulty, is that he got banned for making one too many (or ten too many) sheep-fucking jokes (probably it was a little more complicated than that, I don't recall - it might have had something to do with ignoring the PG in heated religious debate).

Mas Fred could probably have a better time of it here, since he could thoroughly indulge his penchant for ovine naughtiness and/or religious passion in the Cage. But he may not know that. Or he may not feel inclined to support a forum with the same moderators who were in charge when he was banned at the other place. He would be very welcome here, but it is certainly understandable if he's not interested. Anyway, if he does decide to post here, he will get a warm greeting.

He indeed will. However, I may kindly suggest him to park the sheep outside the main forum. Sheep may be admitted in The Cage if it has registered for two months AND posted at least two hundred contributions. Sheep will also have to type "I want to join The Cage" in the relevant thread.

There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.

Since the former appears to be the case, I thought I might as well drop in and say hi.
Work is a killer and time is short so it's unlikely I will post much (if at all), but an update seems to be in order since I see so many mentions of my handsome self on this forum (I'm clearly as famous as I am terrific).
As someone mentioned, I tend to hang around on another forum (it, that must not be named) and write the odd post about life in this wonderful country but, as my time is very limited at the moment, I'm having trouble keeping that up to date.
I'm no longer a handsome English bule, but now a handsome Indonesian bule, all equipped with an Indonesian passport and the other stuff needed to claim I'm Javanese.

That's about that so, unless you have any questions, pip pip.

We're much cooler here, or at least we try to be. It is true that the old forum doesn't allow this place to be named. If you type "expatindo" over there, it will come out "*********". But you can type a link to the Living in Indonesia expat forum over here, and whaddyaknow, it works!

Well you old buger, welcome back, nice to know you are still alive and kicking, hope you and your family are keeping well, any further additions

I have a ten year old daughter and a three year old son.
I keep the one wife as two would be far too much nagging and trouble.
We gained an unnamed pet cat that turns up when no one else feeds it and a rat we call, Albert. The latter avoids the unnamed cat but we aren't sure why.

Goodness, a ten year old daughter and three year old son, time flies mate

Welcome to the forum! I do have a questions! Can you share with us the process of applying for Indonesian citizenship. If I recall there are a few here that almost ready to get in that boat, would be great to have a few pointers!

Many thanks in advance!

Start with the easy stuff.
You must have been in the country legally, on KITAS and/or KITAP for a minimum of five years continuously or ten years on and off.
If that's looked after, pop to your local immigration and apply for a SKIM.
You'll need copies of all your old KITAS and KITAP, passport stamps and everything thing else they ask for - the list is long.
Your passport must have six months validity at the time of consideration, NOT the time of application.
If you're married to an Indonesian, life is slow but a lot easier than if you aren't.

It should also be noted, the process is dark to the world and many things are considered state secrets so I can't post everything here. The process is deliberately difficult in order to make sure applicants are serious.
You don't get citizenship until you prove you've rejected your old country.
You'll be told when to do that.
Another point, the tests are hard work and all interviews are in Indonesian, and there are a lot of interviews, but only after at least two home visits by two separate agencies.

The process is taken very seriously, and I mean, "VERY".

Added - Success is not even close to an absolute, a lot being rejected for a variety of reasons at all stages of the process.
Hard work but, in my view, worth it to be part of what I consider to be a lovely country with terrific food, - Sambal mmmmmm, delicious.

and I can now vote for Jokowi - and I will be doing so.

Welcome home Fred. I don' know you seeing I've only been in indonesia a couple of years bit you sound fun . So welcome

I'm not fun, always serious.
Further, I never smile and I'm very boring.

You should fit right in. Your self portrait makes me wonder if you are from Australia
