iPhone X

Honestly I find smart phones too small for my "pudgy fingers" to type I always use a laptop , and as a phone they are not very good at receiving a signal , all glass fronted phones suffer this problem , hence I use a 280k nokia , brilliant reception of course long battery life . Ya some people wanna show off their wealth especially in asia , I remember in Hong kong all the rich with their gold rolexs , way too big for their wrist , but they still bought them.

I know it’s a bit of thread drift, but Chinese kill for a Rolex, I recal some poor sod had a big win in Macau, , they didn’t steal his money they stole his Rolex

Its crazy all this hullabaloo over a phone , for me the only reason to have a so called smart phone is Waze the direction finder , bloody amazing ! I have gps in the car absolutely useless , lights up and consumes electricity only .
Waze is so accurate because it is constantly updated by its users, and those updates are then made available to everybody online. A traditional GPS map is probably updated once a year. It is also backed up by Google, its owner.

I've had it since before Google bought it. Back then I used it primarily to find hidden cops, who were trying to catch speeding drivers. Users would mark the map whenever they see a cop car. On the highways I would see most speed traps a mile ahead.

Ya waze is a live system , and it works a treat , I know about the gps problems but unfortunately the data is incomplete , here in bali with a 2 month old system it told me kintimani did not exist , quite a large town , so I never use the gps head , except for music .

I used to laugh at dumb people spending big bucks on Apple products, going back 35 years.

8 or 9 years ago, my oldest daughter got one of the ipods that was similar to their iphones. I borrowed it one time and was impressed at what it could do.

I’m not a buy the new model every year type guy. I’ve never bought a new iphone at all. I’ll find someone selling a 2 year old model for $200-300 that is in great shape.

What I will buy new is their ipads. I intitially won an Ipad 2 on a travel website. I was too cheap to buy one myself. After getting used to it, I feel rather naked without one.

My biggest problem is running out of memory. I remember when I thought 16gb was huge. I won’t buy one now with less than 128gb.

My latest purchase, earlier this year, is their latest version, but with downgraded glass or something. Only $400 for 128gb. I can’t tell the difference with the screen.

My little monster got my older 2 year old 64gb Ipad Air on a payment program, and thinks it’s a new ipad because it came in a new case. So now she has little jobs and chores to be able to keep it.

I also find that the Apple products last a lot longer. I have a 2 year old HP laptop that the battery is already almost useless. The same Apple product works as well as the day I bought it. It’s battery is within 10% of new. It gets used extensively.

Just get a good protective case. I dropped, or the little monster dropped the original Ipad 2 so often, that the wifi didn’t work as well after the 100th drop. Never broke a screen. Even 6 years or so later, they still work well. We usually gift the older ones to family members.

The only apple product I am using is apple macbook air (2012 - gift from my wife - she doesn't like it). In uk I used IPOD 30 GB - but after some time it felt like a waste of money so after 6-12 months I have sold it partially because I seldom used it.

The macbook air that I use in Indonesia is only for the weekend, excellent product, thin, light, nice looking, long lasting battery.... I only use it for browsing Internet and maybe watch some youtube. But again I use it mostly on the weekend. On daily basis I use my cheap dell that I bought on 2-3 years ago something like £380. It replaced my previous dell inspirion that I used for 7-8 years. The only problem it had was broken battery which I never bother to change anyway.
Now with this one dell I have some fault with CMOS battery, it was bleeping .. now it stopped by itself and this "happy" message few weeks back saying that my HDD cannot be detected..... but I am doing a way more on this laptop (from torrenting, watching movies when there is no electricity to converting some media files). So far so good it still works and I am using it although my wife said "throw away this "junk" and buy new one".

I guess I got some sentiment to old tools, things ... someone above said that apple's products are durable maybe yes maybe no...

My experience tells me that if you care well and use it properly then everything will last long regardless the price tag or brand, from house ... till sandals.

PS. I am still using as a "backup phone" Samsung Galaxy S2.

I am a little late, on here, and I know it is a separate issue but I guess some people line up for Apples new product continually because of Apples longevity

I once saved up for a very long time to buy a (at the time) top of the line Sony Vario laptop, if I recall correctly it was around ~2400 dollars, which was a huge amount of money for me at the time to be spending on a single item. I was so happy with it in the beginning, but after 2 years the screen started to show issues, battery would drain very quickly, certain keys on the keyboard would randomly stop working etc, it was time to buy a new laptop. Besides the Apple iPods I didn't know too much about Apple but figured I'd give their entry level 13" model (1000 usd) a try; I was sold immediately. Used it for 6 years before I upgraded, and the main reason to upgrade was that I needed a larger screen size for AutoCAD etc on the go. Sold the old one for 7,5jt.. That's just over 30% depreciation over 6 years, for a laptop! And my current one is now almost 4 years in use and still no issues whatsoever (knock on wood).

I know I sound like an Apple fanboy, but everything just works, seamlessly. I've never had my laptop crash, there are rarely security/virus issues, the integration with other devices is absolutely great. I do however not go running to the store to get the newest of the newest every year, as long as it still works for me that's fine.

I read someone saying that all the "new" features Apple introduces usually have already been used on Android phones for a while. While that may be true, what I found was that most of those features have a lot of issues to work when they are first introduced, whereas Apple makes sure that they work properly right of the bat. Sure, sometimes they f up, they're not perfect, but who is?

i do prefer android phones and windows systems primarily because of higher compaibility. i do rely on third party software and apps a lot and ios doesn't seem to offer that to the extent apple and android do.
