During one of my business courses in college my classmate and I were talking about forms of advertising...I said "Oh yeah mouth to mouth advertising!" She was like "Uhm what? You meant word of mouth?" I was pretty adamant that I was right, remembering that in Indonesian it is "Dari mulut ke mulut"...she thought I was crazy!

Here is an interesting item sold in some of the supermarkets here. Wonder who thought up that name?

I wonder what the ratio of men to women drinking it is.

On a side note this is one of the juice brands that is suitable for home-brewing (if I remember correctly)

.
Seen on the local station TransTV:

Don Johnson smoking a cigarette in the movie Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man is blurred out. Not even five minutes before and after, there are cigarette adverstissements (for Marlboro, Lucky Strike, Maxus and Djarum) during the commercial breaks. And four out of five ads are for cigarettes.

But hey; they showed nobody smoking.

Wrapping money up in a rubber band & placing in a tin with a mirror - to keep the thieving pixies /ghosties off it.

"So if you had to leave in a hurry, and could apply one type of make-up only, what would it be?"

"Hmm. Easy."

"Lipstick?"

"Ngga."

"Mascara?"

"Tidak."

"Eyeliner?"

"Nope.

Gambar alis! (Drawing eyebrows.)

Long time ago we designed interior for a jewelry store. Mirrors were demanded inside the drawers or any places where they kept the money. They believe that 'tuyul' is scared by his/her own image on the mirror.
Tuyul = unwanted unborn child who becomes ghost, can be summoned by 'dukun' (witch doctor) to steal money for himself (or his clients) from others.

Babi ngepet = man/woman shifts form into a boar, goes into someone's house and steals money. When this thief is in action, a partner has to guard a candle. When the flame is disturbed it means the boar is in danger, usually someone sees it/chase it/wants to kill it. The one who guards the flame must blow out the candle. The thief magically disappear from the crime scene and appear back in his/her own house. If the boar is caught and killed, they say, it will transform back into human.

I don't like the idea that they blame it on the 'babi'(lit. pig). Who wouldn't see a boar inside your house? Ant or cicak are totally more sensible.

I spent more minutes than I care to remember trying to figure out the maths , thinking i had it all wrong.
I always count. It's just marketing strategy to sell out certain items.

Property developers advertising their properties crossed out the old price and replace it with an even higher price in the hope of hurrying potential buyers to jump in. Now I would have thought to sell quickly at a given supply one need to reduce prices to increase demand, not increase them. A wierd marketing tactic

They want to make people believe that the value of the land is rapidly increased (and will be more) therefore the price goes higher.

wearing thick leather jackets when riding motorcyle in the heat of the day. Prevents "masuk angin" is the explanation. What the...?
It's better tr slide newspaper in front of your chest to prevent 'masuk angin'. Really! :D

I often wonder how a life ruled by superstition differs from one accepting that all phenomena have a factual explanation. This thread lifts the veil into such altered realities just a bit.

I see it as either living in fear or not living in fear... a personal choice at the end of the day- I chose to not live in fear (as best I can).

Many Indonesian's simple beliefs in superstition paves the way to easily be led by the nose in religious beliefs and practices.

oooh ... does this thread have to go down that path as well...:peep:
