Indonesia's Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway launched.

It is not the same as everybody, most inventions and innovations are coming from the West. It does not mean it will change in the future.

Interesting list ... would there be an invention missing on the list? Like the gyroscope?

forcing companies to "partner" with local companies to access the local market
Most "developping" countries you need a local partner, and you are limited to 49% ownership max.
Nothing shocking IMO.

Fair enough. It's a matter of scale though - China is much larger (and thus have more carrot to dangle) and also much more ruthless in doing this

And arguably the industrialized parts of China are no longer "developing".

It's quite telling that most literature on forced technology transfer focuses on China

successfully passed 300 km/hr; 35 minute jakarta to bandung tegal luar station.
I would love to be a customer... BUT it will still take me longer to go by that/any train than to drive to my destination, because I am nowhere near any of their stations: A 40 minute trip to station at departure, then a journey of however long it takes to get to the nearest station (Bekasi) & then an hour or so journey to my destination.
Sigh.

On the Chinese involvement; the project is part of the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative, a program in which China invests in infrastructure development in more than 150 countries and international organizations
For good and bad; my impression is Chinese lenders do less due diligence, and if the project is not economically sustainable they sometimes end up... taking over

Let's go to Surabaya!

From Kompas: Kereta Cepat Mau Dilanjut sampai Surabaya, Ini Rutenya

Terlebih, untuk rute Jakarta-Bandung saja yang berjarak 142 kilometer, biaya yang dikeluarkan mencapai ratusan triliun. Sementara jarak Jakarta ke Surabaya mencapai hampir 800 kilometer.
...
Utang itu akan ditanggung oleh PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), konsorsium perusahaan yang sebagian besar sahamnya dikuasai PT Pilar Sinergi BUMN Indonesia (PSBI), perusahaan patungan BUMN Indonesia.

KCIC is a different name for taxpayer?

Bali ... wants to build LRT.

They built the airport of a tourist destination at a literal bottleneck of an island, with the largest city between the airport and the majority of tourist destinations. Who could have predicted this would be a problem??

An LRT from the airport to Canggu, Sanur, and Ubud would be a great addition, but I will not hold my breath.

From where to where? And through who's UNESCO rice fields and temples and mountains? Never gonna happen. Better like the bypass build it on a sea platform HK style off shore
