I have completed all paperwork but have a problem in understanding the theory test. Wondering if I need a translator to help ....?... Any other suggestions

Many times they allow you to bring in a translator (as your spouse).

Now if you have your Australian driving license and some experience on the road, your driving knowledge and skills are probably better than most in RI anyway. So then I’d consider this (illegal) advice; buy it. Normally I would never say that but in this case it really makes no sense if it gives you such a headache.

No.....asked for English test....also asked for someone to help with interpreting
Can anyone explain what’s going on........so I see the video.....i just press yes for the correct road rules being used on video and no for incorrect .

No one around here, especially at Daan Mogot, has a rat's ass idea of what the correct road rules are. To avoid that scene altogether, my wife pilots the car when we are in Jakarta. And yes, riding in the jump seat is a crash course (inappropriate reference, I know) in patience building.

I should add that to the list of good things about Jakarta -- builds patience.

The tricky part is that many questions will state the correct traffic rule but then show a video where the driver is being incorrect - this is what confused me at first since I thought 'benar' (right/correct) when hearing the rule, but in fact the answer was 'salah' (false/wrong) based on the driver's actual behaviour in the video.

The problem with having a translator is that there is a specified time to answer the question, max 30 seconds but in my case 5-8 seconds...which makes it nearly impossible to understand what is being asked and then choose the right response in the time allotted. Also, it may be that only you get a set of headphones to hear the question, so a translator would be of limited assistance. There used to be an official practice test online. If you can find it, do it a few dozen times and you will get the hang of it and also see most of the questions that would appear on the real test. Alternatively, there are a number of Youtube videos you can watch to understand the actual process better and learn many of the questions and correct answers.

Good on you for trying to do this the right way. Others have suggested the corruption route but I would avoid this. All may be well and good until you renew your license, when the police may trip that your driving license number actually belongs to someone named Rizky Mohamed, for example, or is otherwise patently false, and then the proverbial shit could hit the fan. All legit SIMs are microchipped inside and programed with the relevant details of the driver, and from what I understand the blancos are pretty tightly controlled, at least here in Bali where I live. Good luck!

So .....is there a site in English that actually tell me the Indonesian road rules...????????
Have been looking without much luck

Haven’t seen one no. Even in Indonesian it’s not that obvious, bit hidden in law texts.

The ones you get the ‘easy way’ are not fakes or just pieces of paper btw. And renewal has never been an issue since they really are on your own name. That’s a bit of fear mongering, just as saying it could be an issue after an accident; I know at least seven people who alternatively arranged the license with multiple accidents on their palmarès. (WNI + WNA)
