What do you think that presidential change will make any stir about laws considering WNA/foreigners and related things in the aftermath ?
I think either Prabowo or Anies takes it it will be more stricter either way.
Although in Thailand legislation of weed came out of the blue from junta. I think something similar in Indonesia is out of the question. Either it is dual citizenship, or allowing freehold of property or something similar.
I wish I will be wrong, but all this recent laws (harder to obtain bank account, banning of interfaith marriages overseas, sale of alcohol in RI etc ..) are just pointing in one direction.
And that is it will be just more harder, which translates in way more expensive for an average resident.
If in Jokowi era there were no real movements forward (except maybe digitalization and better and more efficient immigration office) i do not think there will be after him either. But rather step backwards.
I think hardliners will get more free hands to tailor the legislation, and there will be consensus from all sides that foreigners need to pay somehow more.
First where this might manifest is NPWP/tax regulations for WNI residents. I do not know exactly but I have feeling that they will find the way to take their piece of pie on whatever you bring inside RI !
Now, that would not be so awful thing if WNA together with their WNI spouses aren't already somewhat of second class citizens by many tangible merits.
What do you guy thinks ?
