Ideas to make money...

There was this foreigner who made the news by cooking fresh burgers at the pasar to raise money for his wife's medical expenses.

It was a touching story and made the news simply because everyone here assumes that us "bule" are automatically rich.

But it is actually a great idea if you know how to cook: Selling food from your home country.

I was thinking earlier I could open a fish & chip shop :D

Online marking of exams for schools such as IB DP subjects. You don't have to be a teacher but have the relevant subject qualifications for the subject you want to mark. Best if it's not such a common subject like some of the sciences including psychology. Only once or sometimes twice a year but better than nothing. You can apply via the ibo website.

You know that he was one of our former community member, don't you. I won't post his username but he was, and he may join us again some day.

You know, come to think of it I vaguely remember him. I hope things have been looking up for him since.

BTW the video is 42 minutes long, and he's only one of the folks covered.

Interestingly, more and more biz is going on line, Saw this few days on Kompass TV, Cloth ironing on the bike via call, today, saloon on call, freshly cut food ready to cook that comes in a box. Everything is on line and delivery services. That is the future??

Look at Singapore where u see more and more retail closing, mall empty. That to me is a mirror of what would become of us here.

Any interesting idea to share?

I wonder if you (that is people with spousal Kitas/Kitap) can become a Gojek or Uber driver? Technically you are not an employee, but an independent contractor. In Bali, a diligent Uber driver can bring over Rp 10jt/mth gross.

I have to admit I do lots of varied things.
I help out with English at a local prison- not to be advised as a money making scheme though
We have the pet services.
I tutor English in private lessons but am not too sure about the regulations/laws on actual teaching in a school.
I work for an International artist & help with bookings and so on (internet work)
I am also about to start managing a band and promoting their work overseas.
I have been asked to edit some books.
I have reached the "sod it" age where I will try anything & learn anything- if it interests me.
Haha I even tried to sell my lemons to the local prison- but that one isn't permitted without the relevant authorisation from the powers that be.

Wow... BA you seem to be quite busy. As for the lemons .... I just came back from Europe. Visited Italy and they have there a liqueur made from lemons called limoncello:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limoncello

Maybe you can make one. Anyway I am a bit confused with those two forums. I was referred to this forum by a member. Seems I missed a lot in two last months.

No worries if you occasionally aren't sure where you are. Here's a short guide:

Q: Does the forum fall into your comfort zone, or have things been moved around somehow and you need to blink twice and figure out how to do things?

A: if you are in your comfort zone, you are in the new forum (Expat Indonesia, or EI). If the rug has been pulled out from under you, and things you always did automatically now require a moment's reflection to retrain yourself, you are at LII/LIIEF (LivingInIndonesia forum - choice of acronyms optional).

Q: Do you recognize the names of people who are currently posting in the forum?

A: If you recognize poster names, and a lot of them are called "Charter Members," then you are at Expat Indonesia. If the forum was started years ago but it is suddenly populated only by brand-new users with few posts to their names, you are at LII.

Q: Are there some vigorous, maybe even hot-headed remarks being made about what just happened?

A: If there are hot-headed remarks, you could be at either forum! But if the posts vanish, or the posters making them are suddenly banned, you are at LII. If the posts are allowed to stand, and members can discuss them more or less rationally, you are at EI.

Q: What is the status of atlantis at the forum you are visiting?

If he is listed as a "member," but he hasn't posted for a while and is claiming elsewhere that his account has been hijacked, you are at LII. If he is listed as the admin, and is posting at the current time, you are at EI.

I made Limoncello last year it was a bit too sweet for me.
But I do brew my own erm... fermented lemonade from the lemons- and that is VERY popular with our pals.

Well limoncello and manarinello was two new things in my life. Never though you can make an alcoholic drink from it. As for the main topic... would buying things in pasar baru and selling it online here in Indonesia count as an idea to make money?

Yes those are the types of ideas that will help Expats on the ITAS & ITAP visas, I think. :) Thank you

Damn. Post vanished, myb my sausage fingers. I help with 200 chooks. 4 ayam cemani. Love birds budgies and canary breeding. 4 kambing n ones pregnant. Soon put 2000 chooks on mates farm for 50/50 split. 200 sengon trees but thats 4 yrs away

I moved in with my bapak mertua (father-in-law) and he had this idea years ago that he'd raise fish. So now there's 2 year old gourame (or older) and also lele in a pond.

About a year ago he had someone dig out a big pond area. It's now filled with vegetation.

So since i moved back in recently, i think I'll continue his work and complete the large fish pond in the yard. It might be nice, so long as the fish eat all the mosquito larvae/anything that moves in the water other than the other fish.

Supposedly, the pond can be a home to 1000 gourame. I think my father-in-law is overly ambitious but we'll see. I haven't a clue how this fish stuff works.

Hi BA, this is a great idea. So assuming you like to cook, how about offering cooking lessons. Western food, the real one - using local ingredients and the healthy version. I'm sure there are a few expats families living in Bandung, who would love to eat non Indonesian food once in a while. So, you can teach their helpers. Or local Bandung people who like to cook and eat western food.

A good idea Golden (welcome to the forum too).
I have a brain full of ideas, some great some not so great- but way back when, my gran's brother used to have a fish & chip shop & their parents had it before him, so I guess it is in the blood :D
But a healthy version of fish& chips would be what- steamed dory & brown rice?- hmmm that doesn't appeal to my taste buds.
