How much does furniture actually cost in Jakarta.

There are small furniture building shops all around Jakarta, I would assume there others in most places that will build whatever you want. I bought a nice computer desk for 700,000 that would have been in the millions at IKEA. No press board or particle board, real wood throughout. Solid as a rock.

Understood but surely there are some similar shops there that will make it for you. I practically don't do anything around the house even though I use to be pretty handy. It's just too cheap to hire someone and spread the money around a little.

sorry not clear, SS - stainless steel; custom made dinning table/chair legs/frame made of stainless steel. The top table, we ordered separately.
Sometime when quick typing I forgot not in my work habitat anymore.

yes, but I prefer Jepara for the quality, price and delivery time. many of shop furniture in Bali actually import half finish from Jepara. Bali does not have the raw materials (teakwood, mahogany wood). If lot of demand in Jepara, could be difficult to get the materials in Bali.

for small and simple furniture, would be easier and cheaper to buy ready made or mass production made in China from Informa or similar stores or small local furniture shop. But if you'd like to fill your house with better quality, suit your taste and more affordable than ashley or cellini (I guess made in China too), then custom made is good option.

correct, but some time not very easy to identify the real and good manufacturers. We've identified 8 potential merchant furniture manufacturers (who claimed not resellers) in Jepara from Tokopedia; We checked the name and locations from Google, Instagram and Google Map. Last years, we visited all those locations in Jepara - only 5 are real manufacturers - the other three are empty buildings or other building. From 5, 3 of them is very small manufacturer, do not have proper machinery equipment other than hand tools. Only two that meet our criteria and we believe capable to manufacture furniture with sufficient precision and having good stock of quality materials. such as old teakwoods.

Devil's advocate here, some people might say that it has been done that way for hundreds of years. Is a power tool going to make you a better craftsman.

I'm more interesting on getting better product at affordable cost. In general, a skilled craftsman will produce better products if he uses precise modern equipment than traditional tool, assuming he gets the right training to use the equipment.

That is the big question isn't it? I'm just busting your balls BTW. I had a custom made bass guitar built here with exotic woods and the craftsmanship is incredible. Some very talented wood workers in Indonesia.

That's a good point. Quality furniture can be made by hand , and also with machinery. It depends on the craftsman's skills. Quality work and quality materials speaks for itself. I think if a person wants quality work , and doesn't want mass production, then buy from a small operation.
