How do I pay the USD fee for Limited Saty Visa?

Hey Guys,

So, we spent 9 months in Indonesia and came back to the U.S. earlier in 2020, then COVID left us stranded here till now. My KITAS has since expired, and since Imigrasi has decided to allow mixed marriage folks to get visas again, we decided to head back to care for my dying mother in law.

So, we applied after a few password battles, and I am now at the "payment" phase of the visa (see image). Imigrasi gave me two billing codes, one to pay the Rp.200.000 fee and another to pay the $150 USD fee. The IDR one was easy enough through BCA, but the USD billing code just gives me an error on BCA.

Has anyone run into this? If so, how did you pay the USD fee?

Thanks!

Here it has to be paid in $ cash in their account. In actual us$

So to pay online you have to somehow pay it in US$ I guess
I also thought it was only at a BNI (BRI?) Bank?

I just ran into the same problem. After trying unsucessfully with UOB and BCA I read the entire email from [email protected] and found this tasty tidbit under Line 3 in the information section:

"Pembayaran dollar saat ini hanya dapat dilakukan melalui bank BRI, BNI, dan Mandiri;"

So you have to go to one of the lousy state owned banks to make the payment. Oh and don't try doing it in an IDR denominated account with the lousy state owned bank either. Personal experience on my part shows it does not work.

I have to go into the local BNI or BRI this Monday to make the payment.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry you're having the same issues as me, but glad you seem to have found a fix.

Do you think you'll have to do it in-person at the counter? Or do you think you can go through the ATM?

Thankfully, we have family and friends there with BNI and Mandiri accounts to help.

Yeah, I am guessing we'll have to have a friend take IDR to BNI, convert it to USD and then immediately deposit it using the bank code. Seems like that's what Kiperto (the post above) is doing too.

I wonder how the heck they expect expats to do all this while outside Indo? I'm lucky in that our family and friends are more than willing to help. But what about those where both the Indo national and expat are overseas (like me) and have no one to help with the payments in Indo? Weird stuff...

Two hours and 15 minutes of my life gone waiting at BNI to make the payment for the visa.

Actually that was with going to three different banks in the meantime (Mandiri, BRI and UOB to try and get USD which they did not stock 50s). I finally came back to BNI and was STILL 4 away from being served. But once at the counter the payment process was painless. Gave the teller the printout with the billing code. Teller asked for Rp 750.000 and I got a receipt.

Really hoping my application is not kicked back so I do not have to do that dance again.

Ugh... Mondays at Indonesian banks. Fun stuff.

Only Rp. 750.000? When I applied last year through the Consulate here in the U.S., the USD fee was $150. That'd be a nice treat if the fee is only 750K.

I read that you had a printout that you gave the bank. Was this a payment request email from imigrasi? I got an email last time I applied for a visa, but I didn't get one this time, which seemed odd. All I have is the billing code on the visa application system.

This was so much easier when the Consulate handled my visa lol. Just mail them my stuff and wait a week. Imigrasi seems ill-prepared to manage this from overseas.

One slightly different question. Did you have to put a materai stamp on your sponsor letter? In the English instructions, it made no mention of putting one on. But after I submitted it, my wife noticed the Indonesian instructions said it was needed. I am afraid I'll get rejected after all this over that silly 5,000Rp stamp lol.

Yes, for the low price of $53US you can apply for a new e-visa. Our company is the sponsor and we received an email at the address set up in the visa online system outlining how to pay and both code billings in a PDF attachment.

You do not need to buy or pay cash USD. You can pay the fee in IDR and bank converts it to USD.
50 USD fee is for single entry visa <1 year. VITAS visa is 150 USD.

At BNI I did not need to pay in USD. Bank Madiri said because I did not have an account they would only take USD cash. I looked at the line outside of BRI and ran away so I do not know what they would have said.

You don't have to actually give them physical $50 cash, they work out what it is in IDR and you give them that
Yes the ref # comes from Immi with your special number on it

It is a very simple process, any queue would only be waiting for the teller not sure why you had to wait 2 hours unless there was 100 people in front of you?

Thanks for all the info! Mine is a spouse VITAS, so my fee will be the $150.

My huge concern now is email contact. I have gotten no emails from imigrasi, and we had this email issue before when we were trying to reset our password.

I heard rumors that imigrasi's email system has a hard time with any email address that isn't a Gmail account. Has anyone experienced that issue?

Yeah. I never got that email. Did yours come immediately after the application, or did it take a few days? I only have access to the codes through visa-online.imigrasi.go.id.

Immediately and from a non-Gmail address.

Appreciate the insight. Dang, sounds like there is something weird going on between my email address and imigrasi. I'll have to get to the bottom of that.

Hi, I'm in the same situation as you last year. Did you manage to get your visa after all? I did not receive the payment email either, and I'm afraid to pay for nothing if I can't receive the proper emails...

Hopefully I can now help others in these situations. Having read the above posts it's rather convincing but conflicting advice. I can now understand why because there's a lack of consistency with the Indonesian banks so people would've had different experiences.

So I'm British currently in the UK and just had to pay $150 US and 200,000 Rp for my VITAS. I (well my wife as sponsor) got the email saying the dollar payment can only be done at BNI, BRI or Mandiri. Firstly I must say this is ridiculous, they know I'm a foreigner in a foreign country, how do they expect people like us to pay in Indonesia? Would it be that difficult to accept credit cards?! Luckily like others here my other half has family in Indonesia who were happy to help.

So one of my sister in laws went to BRI in Tarutung where she has an account and they told her she could not send the $150 dollars by converting it from Rupiah in her account and she could also not give them the dollars in cash from a money changer to send that way. The only option was to open a USD denominated account and send from there. So open an account just for this one transaction! We passed on that option. We had the converstaion on Whatsapp call speaker so there was no miscommunication.

So my other sister in law in Duri went to BNI where she has an account and they said that because they are a small provincial branch of the bank they don't have "the machine" to send dollars. She couldn't send it from her Rupiah account by convertion. It was a long confusing conversation and sounded like giving the dollars in cash would be ok, but I wouldn't bet on that. Turned out my sister in law needed her bank book to proceed anyway and she only had her atm card on her, so the plan was to go home and get it and get some Rupiah changed to dollars on route back to the bank.

On the way when she was returning to BNI with bank book she was passing a Mandiri bank, she doesn't have an account there but called in anyway. They said no problem they can do it, she doesn't need US dollars cash they can convert from Rupiah cash. The only snag was she needed her KTP identity card and her tax number which she didn't have on her. So she went home got the tax number, returned to bank and money sent no dramas. So where as Kiperto stated above that Mandiri wanted the US dollars in cash because no bank account was held, that was not our experience. His experience was 4 years ago though, so maybe Mandiris policy has changed.

So it seems that there is variation in the options available at BNI, BRI and Mandiri, perhaps even between individual branches of the same bank. Also it is probably best to go to as big a branch as possible, like in a main city as the small regional branches might not have "the machine" and maybe staff training to send dollars. Hope this helps some people out in the future, just send someone on a mission to all 3 banks until you get success basically. Good luck!

Good to hear that your wife had an easy experience with Mandiri, but this is likely the exception rather than the rule. The most likely way to succeed in actually paying the USD portion is to bring it in USD cash and in the exact amount.

The last time I attempted to pay this fee, I had $200 in two $100 bills. The BRI cashier didn't have $50 in change, so wouldn't process it. Couldn't pay it in rupiah, couldn't get the change in rupiah, hell, wouldn't even take it after I said to keep the change.

Last time I did it I just went to BNI and gave her 800rb and she converted that into $50 and paid it directly into the immigration account.
Took 30 seconds

Bureaucracy, the gift that goes on giving...headaches.
There is much to be said for consistency.
Less to be said for ambiguity.
