How common is turmeric In Indoesia

Used in a lot of dishes and in various jamus. My wife grows her own along with lemon grass, laos, cancur, and jahe for jamus and cooking.

It's called kunyit and it's available in fresh form (a root a bit like ginger) or in dried powdered form (bubuk kunyit). In traditional markets, you can find pulverised into a paste too.

Most locals in the desa grow it in their back yards. All the ginger family type roots grow here - kunyit, kunchi, kuncher, laos etc.

I use if for allaying aching knees when running.

So you're that guy with the yellow knees hey?.... lol ..... my wife says a traditional poultice is made from grated kencur mixed 50/50 with raw rice & a bit of water.

Not only locals.
It's one of the easiest thing to grow along with Ginger, lemongrass, lengkuas/Laos, cassava...etc. You have nothing to do, just plant and wait.

About 8 to 9 months.

No... I take it internally.

Yeah .... I thought that may be the case, but besides the poultice I also imagined you running around with a couple of rhizomes strapped to your knees ..... bule gila .... :)

My knees are not "sore" as such but every little bit helps.

Had never heard that turmeric was helpful, I always took glucosamine supplement.
I don't miss having a sore knee. Had arthroscopic surgery a few years ago to fix torn cartilage. worked a charm.
Of course the biggest reason for no more knee pain is NOT standing on concrete 10 hours a night :D

So did most of my older mates. Most still do. But apparently you can't or shouldn't take it continuously you have to have a break.

One friend is off that now he takes turmeric instead. Which he buys in capsules from a pharmacy in a large bottle.

Edit: 900mg four times a day.

Turmeric is cheap, widely available and one of the best natural herbal supplements out there.

Grate and drink; nice with jahe/ginger and/or honey.

Efficacy of the active ingredient, curcumin, is significantly increased by taking with black pepper.

Can be used as a slightly spicy carrot substitute.

Wear gloves when preparing fresh (or ask the help to do it), otherwise your hands will look as though they've been in an argument with an exploding dye pack.

I love this thing. Bought cleaned tumeric for Rp.20.000/kilo online. My mom used to make ginger's juice (?) with lemon to treat inflammation in my tonsil and it always worked. No instant, but only took a few times drink. And now I always make the same recipe a litre every month, for supplement. Tumeric juice and ginger milk are my best supplements.

Kunjit was introduced in Western Europe via Nederlands Indië and India. So you could say this is one of its traditional homes. Cf. Nasi Kuning, the yellow rice, at special events.

It’s anti-inflammatory of course, all the homeopathic stores (dr. Vogel) in the West have it. Be careful while using (other) medication though.

Kurkuma Latte (golden milk) has been rather trendy the last couple of years. I can only stand it during a real cold winter. Bah.

I have osteoarthritis in both ankles, for ages I took glucosamine, I did nothing, a specialist told me I would need to take it for 10 years before any improvement, a friend suggest Tumeric, so my ankles were very swollen and painfully, I gave it a go, a tablespoon mixed with my muesli works wonders, the swelling has gone down and the pain has reduced, I can walk quite well now, but resting and getting started is still painful, so it’s not a 100% cure, my BIL has knee problems I suggested he try tumeric, he tried the powder but didn’t like the taste, so bought some Tumeric capsules, he has a noticeable reduction in pain, I bought some Tumeric capsules in Australia about $12 for 50,
Be careful when taking Tumeric, excessive amounts thin blood and can cause tummy upset,

Take it with black pepper. I do.

I've seen it (credibly) reported to increase efficacy by a factor of 20!

That’s interesting, what % black pepper to Tumeric, I will give it a go
