Exit tax and base currency

Or did anyone ever really get asked about a prenup/postnup when buying a house? People don't even care, and someone maybe never finds out even when you sell the house again. But IF...the big IF..

A pension from the US is taxable here. Social Security is not.

Vanuatu, I like your profile name! That country sounds so cool.
Where was this tax office in Jakarta or Bali ? No need to be too specific, ...
Tax office was in Bali

Funny story about the name Vanuatu, when I was setting up my original account on the old expat site I happened to be on a zoom call with my dad at the same time and he was in Vanuatu on a business trip, so I used that as my user name, I have never been there myself.

Yes this was not required for NPWP, it's with a government bank and I am getting very bad return on this investment.. but trying to fly low until I understand this tax situation .. Like I stated above I don't mind paying the tax but giving the government my account details. etc. ?! The world is full of hackers and anyone things that Indonesian tax system cannot be hacked or is not hacked once in a while is a fool. Next thing you are dealing with attempts are getting funds from your bank accounts and ID theft etc.. Even in a Northern European bank I found a completely different email address suddenly under my profile..
So opening a bank account to deposit the money for a Second Home Visa doesn't require a NPWP.

I went to BNI to ask about this. And indeed, to open a saving account a NPWP is not required. However to open a checking account (= 'giro account') a NPWP is required.

That's always been the way though?
Just straight forward deposit account and Atm card only sometimes no need kItas etc

But anything else like current checking account with debit card visa MC etc needs kitas and npwp

That's why some tourists were able to open a vanilla account just to "keep" their cash and an atm card to access it

So when one wants to keep a low profile here. Just apply for a savings account with debitcard. And transfer money from abroad to this savings account.
