The other thread on Wills prompted me to post this.
The following was published on a Bali Facebook Group page. Some of you may have seen it. For your benefit it is below.

Not cheerful, but we need to get our ducks in a row now to forestall wasted time and unnecessary angst later...
Update.... I forgot to mention passwords, need to have a way to share these
Scenario 1
Your staff arrives and finds you unconscious.
  • Do they have your preferred doctor/clinic number and the instructions to call them?
  • Do they know not to move you?
  • Do they know which of your friends to call and do they have their numbers?
  • Do those friends have your medical insurance details?
  • Do those friends have contact details for your family?
  • Do you have a local joint bank account so funds will be available for treatment and other expenses?
Scenario 2
Your staff arrives and finds you dead.
  • They should immediately call the kelian who knows exactly which police to contact.
  • They should NOT contact the clinic or a doctor. Hours of doctors' time is wasted with admin in these cases. The police doctor will sign the death certificate.
  • Do the staff know which of your friends to call and do they have their numbers?
  • Do those friends have contact details for your family?
  • Do you have a joint bank account so funds will be available for expenses? For example, cremation for Americans costs about 24 Juta. Cost varies according to nationality and required documentation.
  • Are your wishes about dispersal of your property known to your friends?
-Those who are joint on your bank account should immediately withdraw/transfer most funds out of your account. Do not inform the bank about the death unless there is a local will which has been notarised and registered, or the money will be frozen indefinitely..
- Antara Bangsa Funeral Service is our trusted service. Call Agus +62 811393196 to pick up body, do all the paperwork, inform consulate, police and Imigrasi, cremate and arrange boat for dispersal of ashes locally, or repatriate body/ashes according to your wishes.

What about clearing the history on your computer?
In case it deems to be necessary and it is linked to people who are still alive, imo.

For those who really care about their family e.g spouse, children it is important that the family member who are still alive know what they could claim, inherit, what they are entitled to, e.g benefits, pension, etc from their spouse country of origin.

The best thing is to make them aware of anything they could claim. Another thing is to do with inheritance, I have seen people are writing a will in their spouse country of origin. In the event of sudden death the executers will contact the solicitor which in turn will inform inform everyone named in the will.

Creamation in Bali 24 juta. Lampung, 12 juta and that includes a nice urn. Cardboard box, 10 juta.

It will depend on the tradition and religion. If you just need a cremation or wrapped in a shroud (kafan), without the use of a coffin, no need to build the grave, etc, it will be much cheaper. But keep in mind that there is still a funeral ceremony before they are buried or cremated on top of that, which also costs a lot of money.

For those who are Christians, Catholics, or to some extent Buddhists, especially wealthy 'Chindos (Chinese Indonesians)', it is not uncommon for it to cost a few hundred million rupiahs. On the top of that it is a tradition to build the grave like conventional buildings, there are often markers, headstones, or decorative elements that can be added to the gravesite to honour and remember the deceased.

If they are Christians, Catholics, and they are Torajans (an ethnic in south sulawesi), buried with Torajan ethnic tradition, it could be over one billion rupiah, yes that's right it is not a typo, depending on the social status of the person.

"No matter what your station in life, rambu solo’ will cost a fortune. Most cost around 1 billion rupiah ($68,000), way above the means of most Indonesians"

Plant me in a hole, I don’t need anything else.

If I karked it while in Australia I have already donated my body to the school of anatomy at the University of Melbourne. They pick up the body and there are no costs.

And if in Indonesia I have told my wife to do the lowest cost thing possible. No point eating up the modest savings which she may then use for her continuing life. She has life insurance that covers funeral costs if she were to leave before me.

If a stone were left to mark the place where I might end up it would be nice to have something along the lines that Spike Milligan left on his tombstone. "I told you I was ill." But it had to be in Gaelic as the cemetery custodians thought it would offend people if in English.

My computer, phone and tablet are all Apple. Get the password wrong 10 times and they erase themselves. Good luck.
Sounds like a "mission impossible" scene where, after Ethan gets to hear his mission, the device self-destructs ..
