The requirements to obtain dual nationality in the UK & Ireland, for children born on/after 1st August 2006 only:

  • child's British passport, original, plus legalised photocopy (cost is £30 for the legalisation, plus you will need to find a solicitor to verify that the copy is original, they will probably charge £5, but some charge more) https://www.get-document-legalised.service.gov.uk/select-service
  • copy of parent's Indonesian passport, idk if they will also demand the original
  • they may also ask for the leave to remain stamp for the Indonesian parent, best to bring a copy of it. It doesn't seem to be necessary or possible to legalise this.
  • legalised photocopy of British parent's passport, as above £30 + £5 or more to a solicitor/notary
  • legalised photocopy of parent's marriage certificate , this doesn't need to go to a solicitor - the legalisation office want the original. If you are not married in UK, then legalisation by whichever embassy (or just bring the copy and original if you were married in indonesia)
  • long-form birth certificate with parents name (this document is technically a copy, but the Indonesian embassy calls it 'original') AND legalised copy - £30 again, and this doesn't need to go to solicitor
  • online application form via https://consular.indonesianembassy.org.uk/
  • four passport photos
  • letter from British parent, signed in front of a solicitor (again, cost may be £5, maybe more)
  • £30 fee
  • child must attend embassy in London for biometrics and photography. Have to book online. Or you can maybe try 'layanan jemput bola', in a different city around the UK & Ireland every weekend (mostly). But beware additional bureaucracy of sending documents to the embassy two weeks ahead, blah blah blah https://indonesianembassy.org.uk/jemput-bola
Total costs:

4 * £30 UK legalisation fees (child + parent's passport, marriage certificate, birth certificate)
3 * £5 (or more) fees to solicitor/notary to verify copy of passports, and to witness letter of consent
£30 passport/affidavit fee
cost for travel to London for child (and probably a responsible adult), or to 'jemput bola'
return postage costs, various photocopies, passport photos, etc.

= £200+

Most of the costs are gold-plating bureaucracy....
