Does anyone have a copy of the law where it says as a spouse on KITAP we have the "right to work"? I did have something a few years ago but have been through all my old flash drives and can't find it, so it was probably on one of the 3 that are no longer working.

I have started doing some work, taking our guests on snorkel trips and as I charge a good bit less than most operations locally I suspect it will not be long until someone reports me for what they think of as working illegally.

Now we have just had an Indonesian "official" check into our place. My husband is paranoid that I am going to get into trouble. Having a copy of the law in either Indonesian or English or better still both would put both our minds at rest.

Thanks in advance.

Apologies for going off on a tangent, but was undercutting the locals a good idea?

I would have thought a knowledgeable foreign snorkel guide would have been a good USP to overseas tourists and would allow you to charge more.

imagem- UU 2011 has it in it- have a look through this forum & you will find Davita has linked a nicely translated copy somewhere- in a discussion about KITAP/S & right to work.

However, I think you should not worry about such stuff in advance. Wait until someone grumbles.

I was told 'anything to do with the diving sport was one of the easiest work permits to get in Indonesia' when meeting with many professional divers etc. while waiting for a visa in KL's RI Embassy.
Like B-A said you should continue in your own 'spousal' work capacity but also get involved with the local community as much as possible....it always gives back benefits in the long run.

The UU B_A refers is here.....http://www.imigrasi.go.id/phocadown.../uu nomor 6 tahun 2011 - english version.pdf

Just a lil suggestion of a tried & tested tourism gig.
Talk with the boat owner & see if his wife or her friend can make some pretty trinkets & have them for sale when you arrive at / return from the trip. As souvenirs. Then it is spreading the "wealth" - maybe have them sell some drinks/ snacks too.

It is not locals that I am undercutting, none offer the same all in package, only a car for the day. It is other western run businesses like dives shops that charge a lot more, that I am worried might try reporting me.

Fair enough. I didn't realize the competition was western operated.

The snorkel spot is not local. I drive the guests an hour and ten/fifteen minutes, where I meet up with my boat guy, who we have for 5 hours to go to 3 spots. He gets paid more than the going rate and when people tell me I am paying too much, I say I don't mind as I like to share the rejeki. I also rent fins from him and extra snorkels if needed. I am pretty sure he also gets a commission on the beach warung where we stop for lunch. So it is not just me making out the trips and I charge my guests a fair price which allows me to make a little, while I also enjoy the day out too. Bad Azz did a trip with us a few weeks ago and made a post.

Thanks for the links and info guys. I have saved to laptop and photoed some bits so I have on my phone with me too. Much appreciated.

I already got him making the bottles of bread to sell, (I did not mention it as I know some do not approve of fish feeding) and he makes on fins, snorkels and commission at the warung. He probably made more yesterday than I did with a group of 11, as I had to hire an extra car and driver, pay more for him to hire a bigger engine for his boat, all the fins and masks, not to mention my Chinese guests had 2 dishes each for lunch at the warung ;)

Yes, just want to continue my work under spouse KITAP. As for getting involved with the local community, I have been here 20 years and am already involved as a founding member of South Lombok Community Association, and lots of other work I have done and continue to do within our community. As one of the longest term expats in our town, I like to think I have a good reputation among locals but I am already aware of some rivalry/jealousy with some new expats in town, which is where my worries came from as I heard one dive shop in particular had made comments on my offering the same trip as them for half the price. Another expat in town has blocked me on FB and started his own community FB group in competition to me, because I deleted a post where he advertised his business, which is against rules. So just covering my arse! Thanks again for the links all.
