Bungled Operation in Bali

A few days ago had our 80+ mother (in-law) into Siloam in the Kalibata area of Jakarta where her two painful kidney stones were blasted into small, passable pieces. No complications, very professional and courteous staff and doctors, and not particularly costly. Ibu refused, as unnecessary, the pain meds she was sent home with.
My sister had a single kidney stone blasted 2 years ago in the US. One overnight hospital stay. No problems. US$25,000.

Oh I love stone stories, I had a stone over half inch long stuck in my tubes, they blasted it at Pondok Indah, There, the doctor said, I've smashed it, wrong, he had only broken it into 3, which passed painfully after a few days, I could churn out stone stories like sausages, so don't want to bore you

I realize all procedures are different, but Ibu was in and out in about three hours at a cost of Rp.10.5 juta; she has a cat scan the day before for around 2 juta.

That is very expensive but what I believe medical care costs in USA....if not Insured. Even Insurance Companies offer different rates if USA is included or not.

The whole process I've been through, described in my blog, has probably cost me slightly above US$30,000 here in Bali and I had the best of care. I've been told it would be in the US$100-200 thousand range if done in USA.

It is $500 just when you walk through the doors at a US hospital.
