Birds and cages

Bat is a popular meat for Balinese too. My husband before he got into fishing years ago regularly used to go hunting bats with other Balinese. They would eat all they killed so I could not argue with it though I did not really like it. He and my son both like to eat bat. I tried it once and would not bother again.

I would think the same holds true here as it did in Micronesia. They have rather large fruit bats that they catch and cook in coconut milk. I was fortune enough to be able to miss the feast when made available to me. Perhaps Puspa was able to join in on a feast or two. Coconut crab is a different story. So good.

The weirdest thing I have been given was horse milk mixed with a home made alcohol in Kazakhstan. I would imagine eating a bat would be like eating a pigeon, a lot of work for very little reward.

Fruit bats are also rather furry. It stays on them when cooked. Nothing like a pigeon. Many fruit bats are as big as pigeons and a lot more ugly.

You can buy canned horse meat in the stores in Kazakhstan. Pretty good too.

When I was in Basle,I said I was going for some pork chops, my lodger said, don't go to the butchers down stairs he just sells horse meat, a snippet you may not know, there is an annual round up of the New Forest ponies, and they are shipped off to Belgium for horse meat, not a lot of people know that, quite sad really, as most tourist think they are being sold as pets
